open air searching - 911targa vs conv 968 vs conv 944
I have been actively searching for a 911 targa in the 10-15k range.
I have looked at and driven approx 7 911's to date, of which, only one was decent enough to buy, but i lost out on it. There are a couple of alternatives that have come up in this price range including a 1992 968 and 1990 944 convertibles. I was wondering if anyone could provide me some feedback on the overall driving comparisons or values of these non-911 cars. |

Just sold my 968 cab.
Have owned a 911 targa and still miss it to this day. Keep looking and get a 911, they are out there. ![]()

I own both in coupe form. They are two completely different cars. You will have to drive them both. To keep it short, the 968 is a smooth, modern, excellent handling car. The 911 is a raw machine. As far as the open air part, I don't know much about that.

While the water pumpers may be less to buy, they are just as much, if not more to maintain. They will also loose in value more than the 911, which basically has bottomed out. For 15k, you should find a nice SC targa or a dencent 84-86 carrera. Be patient. Also, some cars may have small issues that are easily fixed. It's like buying a house, you have to look through the ugly furniture of the current owner.
