Are you kidding me? Why can't this happen to me?
Because I'm in CA and this car is in Maryland. Somebody go get this today!
(I'd even pay a driveaway fee if somone wants to see CA. ![]() http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?threadid=294935 |

Cars like that pop up on craigslist frequently in Nor Cal. I'm not so sure that that is such a smoking deal. High miles, needs paint, obvious accident damage, etc.

Yeah, I bought my car for 7K off craigslist in better condition, lower miles and with records. Thought I was getting a smoking deal until I started pricing out repairs......After my experience I would look at that car as parts only unless there is something about that really makes it worth restoring. Just my .02

Milt- I feel your pain! That's a pretty good start for your next big thing.

Anthony, Stuart, did you visit the web page with all the detailed pics? I fix cars as a hobby and soon to be as a profession. I specialize in panel replacement, rust repair and lead work. I just finished an early 911 and now have e 356 under repair. This advertised car is a fantastic candidate for a fixer. Trust me. Also, did you see the compession and leak down numbers? And the brakes? The car is worth the asking price in parts alone.
I don't care for Targas much or I'd make a better effort to get this car. (Had a '77 Targa for 15 years.) Ryan, is that you? Yeah, Mike, one will come along. |

Definitely a deal - a better deal for someone to part out which would be a shame but guys do it.
I'm not sure there is that much profit in fixing it. I think you'd do better to offer your services to other Porsche owners. |

$5,000 seems like a great price!
Interior looks decen for it's age and the supension & brakes are all fresh. Motor is still strong, tires look decent. At least he took lots of phots's so there are no surprises in the front without the fenders. The car would make a great second Porsche for me if I had the space ![]() I've seen $10,000 SC's that need more work.

If you can do your own body work then you might be able to make this car work for you. Of course, it will eat up a lot of your time and in the end you'll have a car that's never going to be as desireable as a clean car that's lead a more pampered life.
Ulitmately it's just a matter of how much you value your time and the experience. You know what they say, "where there's a will there's a way". Good luck

Cool Car.....Interested in trading for a 79SC Targa? Brand new top end and clutch that cost me just as much as the one you're interested in.

I agree with Milt & GothingNC. This looks like a great car for the $$; especially if you're looking for a "driver". If my Porsche fund hadn't become my "going back to university" fund, I'd be on a plane to pick this up, after having a fellow Pelican check it out.
Looks like a great "entry level" 911, a bit rough around the edges cosmetically, but in fine form mechanically. Drive and enjoy as you work on the esthetics. Similar 911s do seem to op up now and then, I think you just need to be ready to jump NOW (I'm not). FWIW, didn't TRE have an SC in similar condition last year, for about the same price?

TRE has had some "deals" in the past. I'd like to find one of them first.
Stuart, the "Ragamuffin," as it was known on the local circuits (both tracks and canyons), was sold in the spring of this year to a fellow in Pleasanton who exported it to Europe to a friend. I'm sure it's a different car by now. I will build another, that's what I like to do. |

Hey Milt,
I seem to spend half my life looking for cars on the Internet and often run across ones that I think "Boy, if I could fix things, I'd buy it in a second..." Maybe we should team up! I'm in L.A., east, but high above the ghetto...
