I hope the future owner enjoys it ![]()

Even though I'm not in the market I would have snatched that thing up if I would have seen it before it sold. I'm only 2 hours from there. As well, all of Colin's work on the car has been posted here on the Pelican board for the past few years. NOt to mention that being a '75 and smog exempt is a big thing here in California.

Nice car. There was 5k more in it, unless the paint was really shot, don't you think?
I agree, it being a 75 made all the difference. G |

Not sure if I'd write to the original owner about it. What's the value added? It's a free market. That car was sold for too little. As I said, 15k would have sold it quickly too. In the end it does not matter. I sell my stuff fairly cheap too. Maybe not to the point where someone could flip it for 10k, but for a few grand any day. You don't want to forget the fact that this is now offered by a dealer. They offer financing and all the silicone and wax on the car, so they generally make 30% more on the car.

I suppose the moral of the story is:
1) if you are a buyer, have your money readily dispensible in a cashiers check form. The seller started his for sale thread by saying "The first person that shows up with a cashiers check for $9,999...." That certainly is one way to sell a car. As a seller of myself, I hate it when you make all of these arrangements with people (put them in a line) and then half of theme flake or don't show up, so by the end you are saying "the first person to show up with cash at my door" anyway..... 2) if you are a seller consider whether you just want money or if you care about where your car ends up or whose home it goes to. Whoever ends up with this car will be pleased, but will have paid the flipper a handsome profit. Frankly, I have no problem with people selling things cheap, in fact I hope to find that kind of a seller... who gives me a bit of a break on account of the fact that I will become a Porsche owner and baby his/her car ...the thing is in this case the owner sold it cheap to someone who is a flipper and all the others who were waiting in line were shut out (there was only 1 car). But then again it goes back to ...as a potential buyer ... do you have your cash ready? I don't (but I should). I would have had to say I'm thinking about it so ...the owner wanted/needed to sell and got it done, what else is there to say.

I keep cash in my father in laws safe, just for situations like this. In the past month, I have purchased a 73E and a 71T (sport Seats, original owner) for really good prices, because as soon as I found the add, I grabbed my cash and drove like a mad man to the car. Paypal for deposits in invaluable also. My problem now, is I have no more cash.

Hey guys,
That was my car. I can't say I'm thrlled it's getting flipped and it would have been nice to see it go to an enthusiast. HOWEVER, the buyer followed the rules I layed out - he showed up first with the check and I was done with it in under one hour. As you can imagine, it wasn't an easy decision for me to sell it, and it was good to get it done quickly. I've sold 3 Porsches in the last 10 years, all of which I was in love with, and each time was a MAJOR hassle. Tire kickers, check bouncers, Nigerian mafia, etc. I'm well aware (having built the car up from scratch) that it was worth more like $15-20. I spent quite a bit on parts. ![]() But I made the decision to get it out of my garage quickly before I changed my mind. The extra few K was not worth the hassle (to me - YMMV if you are in my shoes, obviously). Bottom line is that I got what I asked, and the buyer got the car. I had higher offers before I sold, but it was important to me to be ethical and follow the rules I set up myself. If anyone you know buys it from the flipper, be sure to contact me - he didn't take the records or the spare tire. I can also fill you in on all the wiring/fuel system/oil system changes.

Hey Cowtown... good on ya. You accomplished what you wanted, and in an ethical way. Nothing wrong with that!

I was just in the middle of this situation. Listed on Craigslist was a 1976 912E for just 3K. Gone in under an hour, it is now on Ebay for 9k min, 12k buy it now. Went to see it, not bad shape, but hate to see it just washed and a battery and make 6k or more - where is the value added? Oh well, on to the next one.

Why does everyone get so upset when someone makes money? When you eat lunch today, figure out the markup on that fountain soda you are drinking....the cup cost more than the sugar and water.
Cowtown had the right attitude and to him the time and aggrevation weren't worth it. I try to buy cars right and don't mess around when buying..that usually gets me a good price. I always price a little lower when selling but many times it's close to what I paid. To me it's just not worth the hassle and aggrevation trying to nickel and dime something. Money is important to everyone, but to me an well educated and enthusiast buyer are not always the same. California cars and the buyer for them that found this car obviously are well educated but maybe not an enthusiast like most people think of. I bet the guy that bought it for the dealership knows his porsches.AND he might even drive it while it's in the sales process. To me this is just a different type of enthusiast. These guys probably have a lot of overhead, not to mention all the DMV rules and laws to adhere to. It might make some people sick to thier stomach...that feeling is really jealousy though. Think about it...we all wish we could find the "deal". It's why E-bay is so damn popular!

My wife likes Ebay.
She has sold quite a few infant formula coupons that she received free in the mail for less then face value. She didn't force someone to buy them....

right on...value is only realized when something is actually sold....not the pricetag that is put on it.
my bet on cowtowns car is sold for 15k but not after dealing with a bunch of dreamers and tire-kickers.

Bizarre-- The price at California Cars at first was 19,900, then it went up to 24,900 - now it's back down to 19,900.
