the big fool.....

bought this car and hoped that i could realize my dream of a 911 RSR replica, but i got the car in monday, and it was so rusty it going to take years and $$$$$$$$$$ to make it perfect, so now i am standing with a broken dream and a empty wallet........not every car from usa is rustfree......

Wow,

I'd be bummed out too

What kind of shape would a Long Hood in your area be for $6,000 US dollars?

i know it was a long shot, but i thought that there would be some repairs to be done, not to build a car from scratch, i got wise on that subject, the cars in denmark regarding to the very high taxes is veryhigh we pay around 180% in taxes on a car, but you are right 6000$ is not very much for a porsche.......... im a learning fool........

From the pics, I'd say you got a good deal if the car is driveable. As they say- life hands you lemons; make lemonade!

180% in taxes on a car

WTF? Then it sort of makes sense to build one, doesn't it?

There is a rust belt in the US plus there is oceans with salty air and the whole South is a humid mess. The only good cars are from Southern Cal and AZ and even there an owner that washes it every week or has it sit in the rain enough may push it over the edge.

Sorry for your experience. Never buy a car site unseen - that's the rule for me, since I bought something sight unseen that rusty 10 years ago ...

competent you really need to post a warning before pics like that!

iblis....i don't know what to say to you man. 'very little rust' must've been a reference to the brake lines. for the amount of metal work to be done (and what may have yet to be discovered) i wonder if you might be wise to look for a clean tub to transfer everything over.

if you need encouragement look for Milt's old posts where he fixed up a rusty old S.

kudos to you for having the balls to take that car apart and get a real idea of the condition! many people would just spray some undercoating and resell it or even drive it as is.

Yep, that's what socialism will do for ya! Will happen in the USA (or at least lefty California) before you know it.

In any case...you got a running 911 for $6000 (which is PEANUTS in Euros!) I see decent inner fenders and front pans but some rocker panel and rear panel rust...only the most pristine southwestern cars don't have that! I've seen much, much worse rusted cars than that saved...you got a great deal.

That will make a sweet RSR replica,..the steel flares, giant tail, and RSR front bumper are already done, you just need a better color and a backdated '73 RSR rear bumper! I'm picturing that car in Viper Green or Gulf Blue with a gold "Carrera" script on the side to match those classic retro racing wheels. Don't get discouraged...just learn how to weld a little and be creative. Think of it as sweat equity.

I think the car was misrepresented. 'Very little rust' does not mean "there are large holes where the rust used to be."

Still, it appears fixable, and not likely to cost you a ton of money. You should end up with a nice car for less than 12,000 Euros.

Not sure if I'd call the car misrepresented. A lot of the rust we see in the pictures was truly hidden.

It may have been near the ocean some, but "standing water" in the car explains most of the rust. At some point some body repair was done and fiberglass was used to cover the weep holes in the rockers, combine that with a leaky targa top and a rainy Charleston, SC and the result is what you see.

It is for sale for $2800 if anyone is interested:

Wow! With all due respect, what were you thinking........

Misrepresentation, i think not. Buyer beware and this should have been pretty obvious.

Hope you start another project after you get rid of this one....
