Cowl/Door Rust - 82 SC - impact on asking price?

I am looking for some feedback on a 82 SC I am considering. The car is mechanically strong with all the correct updates for the year. In addition it's very clean inside, outside, and underneath except for a few minor rust blisters. I found rust on the cowl and on the bottom inside seam of the passenger door. Here is a picture of similar cowl rust I found in other posts here on PP.

I don't like rust as I can not repair it. This is, for me, a show stopper. Does anyone have any info. on what this would cost to professionally repair and how you would adjust your offer price on a car that has a asking price of $15K?

Thanks

15K?
Don't walk... RUN.

You should be able to find a SC in much better condition for that money.

That is not one of the routine areas for rust...and nothing to be too worried about. It was caused by a rock chip or by the hood. Either way, someone did not repair the metal exposure and it has created surface rust...easily repaired. I don't think this should be a deal breaker on an otherwise nice car. Try to get $500 off on the price but you could repair it for less than $50.

HOWEVER, one potential cause is from the hood being pushed up and pinging the cowl...this could be from someone overzealously over opening the hood or from an accident. Look deeper and see if you can find the cause.

Good luck

Walk away. The door seam rust means a door shell replacement. The cowl rust could mean a lot of serious work under the front windshield seal. This is a $2-4K hit on the car's value. More important, the rust you see coming from the inside out is the tip of the iceberg.

These cars are easy fall in love with at first sight. But like others have said, there are many nice ones out there in better shape and for less money.

When you see rust you have to assume there's 10x more hidden.

Thanks guys. I made an offer considering the rust issue into the price but it was not accepted.
