67S (?) Is it saveable?

I couldn't believe this ad:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks___1967-PORSCHE-911S-COUPE-60-PHOTOS-PERFECT-PROJECT-L-K_W0QQitemZ140267322921QQddnZCarsQ20Q26Q20TrucksQQ ddiZ2282QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item140267322921&_trkp arms=39%3A1%7C65%3A-1%7C240%3A1308&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245

Of course the car is a Miami Vice wannabe, looks by the VIN to be a "normale", and may be saveable, but before anything happens, look what the seller is advising as to rebuilding the engine! Yes, The best engine rebuilder in California--Motormeister!!!, who will rebuild an original 67S engine (yeah, sure it is...but who knows?) all for less than $3K! You can bet that if the engine is an S, it won't be by the time it is shipped back to the owner.

That car is totally saveable, especially since it includes so many of the original parts.

I couldn't help myself. I sent the guy an email about the Motormeister remarks and the cost of a 911 engine rebuild. I was gentle and consider it an act of community service. I would hate to see someone else get taken in the same way that 911e in Canada recently did under similar circumstances just because he didn't know any better.

Matt, you're a man of honor and goodwill. It will be interesting to see if the seller replies directly to you or alters his ad. I agree completely with prevention of another person being taken by either the ignorance of the seller, or the practices of MM. Good work.

They didn't reply to me and haven't changed the ad.

I checked the ad last night and there is an additional post regarding "many emails". In short, the seller is disclaiming any knowledge of how to restore a Porsche and is discounting the MM reference as only one possible way to restore that came up on an internet search. He is admonishing all buyers to "do your homework" regarding the car's condition and cost of restoration. It all sounds consistent with a seller unfamiliar with the early Porsche market and uncertain about the sources of the emails, ergo--caveat emptor--which is better than blind leading the blind, IMO.

Hmm...Isn't that one of Eric Linden's (Soterik) cars used as an example of Gulf Blue?

Whoever owns that beautiful car would be the first one to tell the seller that isn't Gulf Blue.

Yes, that's one of my cars...and yes, it's Gulf Blue...1967 Gulf Blue is not the same as 1973 Gulf Blue.

Cheers,
E
