1961 NOTCHBACK - Possible value
Would like your thoughts on this car. Anyone happen to know the production numbers on the notchbacks?

Don't know the production numbers on these but they were built in relatively small numbers..
- They did not sell well when new.. - Were pretty much unloved and sacrificed during the 356 run-up of the 90's - Rather than being lovingly restored, many of them were parted-out or converted to cabs - In the later 90's up into recent years, they have developed somewhat of a following due to the relative obscurity As with any 356, you need to have it checked-out by someone knowledgeable prior to purchase, as one never knows what lurks under the pretty paint on one of these. Seller stated in add that previous work had been done to the bottom.. That could mean the pan, longitudinals, inner rockers etc.. not enough detail Good luck!

By VIN numbers alone, approximatley 1750 notches.
Post on the 356Registry site for more accurate information from the experts. In September 2008 car was on eBay and met reserve at $ 22 - 23 000 (can't remember exact price). Am surprised to see it relisted by the same seller. jb |

When it sold last I was going through the purchase process and found that the Seller was good to deal with. We just couldn't sort out our differences on price (a few thousand dollars). Car sounded honestly represented and all the 'non perfect' aspects of it were disclosed.
Unfortunately for me that since that time the car is now more expensive for me to purchase due to currency exchange rate fluctuations. For the Seller's sake I do hope it goes to a good home. |

Now in 993 land ...

This is one of those examples where "rare" does not equal "desirable".
