Another SC pricing thread...
I came across what appears to be a well-kept '82 SC coupe with 83K miles on the clock. Owner claims full documentation back to new, excellent paint and a minty interior (I haven't seen the car in person yet). Carrera tensioners, turbo tie rods, SS brake lines. Original engine and gearbox. Pacific blue exterior/tan interior. Anyone have an opinion on a fair price in the current market, assuming the car checks out at a PPI?

Assuming it is a Coupe 16K is TOP dollar. 10K is a steal. Reasonable deals lie somewhere inbetween.
Targas sell for a little less in my opinion. You really need to see it and DRIVE it first. BTW, I also believe that the Bay Area has generally depressed 911 prices due to an overabundance of supply. Just an opinion. Given the unemployement info that just came out, you could offer 9k? Larry |

You are a classic example of "paralysis by analysis."
The SCs and Carreras are a dime a dozen, and very easy to find good ones used. You need to just find one, pull the trigger and get it over with. It's not life and death, it's just a sub $15K used car. |

I think I've asked a legitimate question in the appropriate forum. There's really no need to comment if you've got nothing constructive to add.

Hopefully my comment is constructive to you, i.e., it helps move you to actually buying one of these great cars instead of hair pulling, nit picking, and tire kicking.

FWIW, the seller says he's firm at $18K which sounds at least $3K-$4K too high to me.

That is too high. You can easily get a G50 Carrera with those same miles for $18K.

If he's firm at $18K then walk away from it. There are others out there.. Just use it as another datapoint in your quest.

These are great cars, but so are 3.2 Carreras, and there is a lot of overlap in the price range. Spend a little more for a GREAT car, and you will feel like a king and never regret it. Selection, selection, selection. BTW, I have answered your question at least 100 times. Don't take it personally when these guys get short, they will be your best friends when the chips are down. Buy a good one anyways, and save the chips for the dip. ![]() |

Sounds like a great car, I have a 1982 Pacific Blue targa that I have owned for 13 fun years. Sometimes I wish mine was a coupe. If it was closer I would be very tempted. If the car is right, I think the price is a little high. However, sometimes if its only a couple thousand over, I have paid a premium to get the right one.
In the long run, if you're not paying for someone's deferred maintenance it's not a big deal. |

$18000 is on the high side probably, but it's really hard to say if it is too high. It depends on a lot of different things. Condition is relative. Maintenance history is important. You probably won't be able to fairly evaluate the car or price unless you really look closely at a LOT of cars. Time is on your side. Be as patient as you can be. Unless you're convinced you are VERY unlikely to find a better example, just keep looking.
Personally, I'd pay a little more for a great car. As was said earlier, in the long run you'll save money. In this market, you can afford to wait for the right car. There's no rush. There are more sellers than buyers right now. One other thing. Often times, a local car that you might find in the local paper or Autotrader can be a real find. You just have to wait for it. Good luck. |

I agree with others, a grand or two for the right car (condition and features) is almost always worth it. $16k sounds like the the ceiling for a really nice SC. True, that will get you a nice 3.2 also. Decisions, decisions ![]()

Unfortunately, the car is about a 3 hour drive from me so I haven't seen it in person yet. I agree, that a discussion of price over the phone or in e-mail is awkward at best. But in the $16K-$18K range, I'd lean towards a nice 3.2 Carrera. I'm starting to see G50 coupes in excellent condition with 100K or so miles in that price range.
