Anyone know Cal. Competition and Classics in SanD?

I am wading through the quagmire of 930's for sale, looking for a good one and ran into a nicelooking 1980 Euro 930 at California Competition and Classics. There are a few discrepencies in the seller's story.

He doesn't seem to know what or even if he has records for the service and history of the car. there are 52K miles on the speedometer but it's obviously been switched as the car would have had a KM speedo in it...

I've booked a PPI at Black Forest next week but haven't even heard back from the seller about that..

anyone?

Never heard of them. The boys at Black Forest will give a good once over. Any pictures? Make sure to ask for the works. It will cost a little more but worth it. Just went to the website, pretty car. Not cheap.........

I didn't like the disco "Turbo" pinstriping but apparantly it's a factory option and I actually found another car on youtube with the same livery. It's kind of growing on me.

The seller claims the car is "all stock" but it has (nice and expensive) 6-way recaro sport seats in it.. I also am of the opinion that bone stock is not always a good thing on a 30 year old car. he doesn't have the service records (even though he states in the ad that he does) so who knows what is done to it. I am looking at another really nice 930 and there are enough cars around - want to make sure I find a good one!

i beleive this is the same car that sold recently on e-bay by a guy in birmingham which i actually talked to about it. can't rember exactly but i think it enedeed ups seling for low/mids $30ks. also the silver 75 on his web site was recently sold off e-bay from guy in new york which i also talked to. the guy selling in NY said this guy told him he was going to keep it and then when he found out it was being flipped he was pretty PO'ed. i think it sold in the mid $40ks..

wow, thanks for that, cellison! That sounds about right. seller says he bought it off a doctor in alabama. he also says he has 32.5 "into it", maybe including shipping. he's not going to get a cent more than that from me!

Any contact info on the doctor? I wouldn't mind talking to that guy as the seller doesn't seem to have much info on it other than "it's fast". Did you get any info from him that you can mail to me?

It is a nice looking car and I do like the graphics. I also would like a Turbo but the guys that do major work on the cars always talk me out of it. Sales people always have one thing common.

Here is the link when it was FS on Pelican. i don't have the old e-bay listing. the guy who actually sold it in alabama to the guy in cal is obviously a broker also, but around the same time he had also sold a 78 and 79 930. one belonged originally to bill gates.

for another data point, someone in Oklahoma recently sold an 80 930 that looked real sweet/imaculate. i think he sold it for low/mid 30s. i understand that one went back across the pond.

thanks a lot guys. I'm not sure why one guy would buy the car, bring it to CA where he can't get it on the road then try to sell it for more than he paid for it... I don't know if there's any point in getting in touch with porschebroker but it would be interesting to know where all the papers and records that he refers to have gone??

I had a good look at the swiss 930 that was sold in Oklahoma and have actually been contacted by the guy bought that one, he's a pelican from germany. a deutche-über-pelican if you would. That car was very, very nice!

by the way, I am a salesman too - just without the shady eyes and very nice shoes

Car needs to be '80 or older for me to get it in to Norway as a "vintage" (ie. no customs duties). I'd have to pay around $20K to get an '84. No $hit! welcome to socialism!!!

Socialism, people under it become brain dead, it becomes a way life. There are many idiots in the U.S that want it. Why don't they move to a socialist country and leave this one alone? Does it need to be a Turbo? I got nothing but we can keep our eyes peeled. I like the white car here in town but the price................ouch

Hi!

I noticed you had a post about 6 months ago re: California Competition and Classics LLC of San Diego. I read the replies but I'm curious if you learned anything further.

Frankly I'm a little surprised at how low a couple of their prices are and the replies to your post didn't do a lot to allay my concerns. I've found nothing on BBB, but as an out-of-state buyer I'd feel better with a positive referral. Alternatively, have you come across a good contact in San Diego/LA whom you could point me to?

My plan is to have the vehicle inspected prior to purchase in any event.

Separately, could you tell me how I could go about verifying VIN/chassis numbers for these older cars, as a potential buyer. I think you could go thru Porsche but I had heard you might need to own it already.

Hello Edward.
I can't really help you too much with C&C, I didn't really get that far into the process of buying that car off of them. wasn't exactly overwhelmed by the responsiveness of the guy there and that was a big factor in deciding where to spend my money. quick, informative responses=serious seller IMO.
Get a completely indipendent PPI, preferably at a place suggested by a fellow pelican, and get them to check out whatever you need.
I ended up going a totally different route on the east coast. there are LOTS of cars out there these days!
