would you go ahead with this ???
I just have this feeling that all is not right. I would think that a transaction that takes place through ebay buyers protection would be safe, but I don't quite know. Anybody complete any similar transactions ?
Hello, Here is what I had in mind. Because we cannot meet in person, I suggest using a well known third party as a supervisor for this transaction. The transaction will go straight through ebay. They will be our middle man. The steps of the transaction are: 1. I will start the transaction which will falls under the Business Purchase Protection program, managed by ebay, and they will send you an e-mail confirmation with the payment and delivery instructions. 2. You send the payment to ebay. 3. The car will be delivered to your location (shipping included in the price). There will also be provided a tracking number of the shipment which you can check anytime you want. 4. You will receive the car in 48-72 hours, depending on your current location, and you will have a 5 days inspection period to test it. 5. If the car is what you expected ebay will forward the payment to me. If not, they will fully refund you at your request and they will send the car back on my expense. I know the condition of my car, and you will be very satisfied, I am pretty sure about this. Will also need your full name, address and phone number so I can start the official procedure with ebay. Looking forward to hear from you ...is this the new Nigerian scam ?

This is a common sold scam. You provide them with your name and shipping address. They will send you an email that looks 100% legit like its right from eBay except its NOT FROM EBAY. Its a spoof email and when you send the money to it the money will be going to either Nigeria or Eastern Europe and you'll never see it again nor will you ever see any sort of car from them. Ebay has NO such service and I am guessing the car you are looking at is far below market value. Use some common sense who in their right mind would pre pay shipping and give you the option to send the car back totally free.
This scam is out there on all the car web sites, I cant believe anyone falls for it. Go ahead and contact ebay they will confirm they have no such service.

Everything was good until this email arrived, seller had been patiently answering all my questions, but this email just threw up a red flag. I went later to ebay and the car is not even listed any longer. So that, in itself, got me running away.

Several years back it was easier to spot them since the phony emails were not as slick as the ones today. The phony email from whats supposed to be eBay is pretty convincing.

It definitely is a scam. I'm glad that you caught that. I went through something similar when I was interested in a 930 on ebay. Got that same type of email that supposedly was from ebay but was not. Like you I knew something was fishy. I even notified ebay of this scam.

I bought my bike on ebay, but the seller only asked for a small deposit then we met and I paid cash. Don't think I could buy anything large without actually seeing it.
