76 Turbo Carrera
I have been noticing, for some time now, the following ad...this one was on Samba, but I have seen it elsewhere. From the ads and pictures I've seen it seems quite well sorted albeit modified and upgraded. Other than seeing the ads on various forums, I have no affiliation.
1976 Porsche 930 S Price: 45,000 I bought this little gem 21 years ago. I am the 2nd owner and I have all papers from day one.(from show room)Mileage 74902; repainted orig. color "Peru Red" (METALIC COPPER) cost 10k. Orig. Blk. interior perfect condition. Boost gage, 930s steering wheel. New rebuilt to strict requirements; engine less than 1000 miles. 350HP+twin plug intercooled 3.2L SC spec. cams, ported (SS exhaust/wastgate/muffler) 17" wheels new "Z" rated tires. Serious inquires only call 342 4759 So a couple of questions: 1. Is the 930 S a factory designation? 2. There were, according to most sources, about 500 or so cars imported, so they don't come up for sale very often. Is the above car priced appropriately. 3. Regarding the model year 1976, are stock cars or modified cars better in terms of desirability? |

Modded early 3.0 930s are normally worth less than stock. I wouldn't pay even close to that money for it personally. He probably is trying to get every dollar he spent back at that price, and with mods it just doesn't happen...
Stock early 930s are quite rare, however one just went on ebay with 70,000 miles and a chipped paint job for like $15,000 or something crazy low. It was a driver. |

Yes, but they didn't make them that early (they were all 3.3 based), and that spec isn't even close to a factory 930S - which was basically a stock 3.3 with a better turbo, better intercooler and SC cams for 330HP. Later, there was a variant with bigger inlet ports as well and slightly more power.
Most 930S cars were flachbau (slant nose), and many (all the early) flachbau were Sonderwunschen (Special Wishes) cars built to customer order. Before this became an option (M505, M506), I believe all slants were Special Wishes built at Werke 1, not on the line. I think all 930S's were built as Sonderwunschen, at least some to customer spec. Much information on this thread http://forums.pelicanparts.com/911-930-turbo-super-charging-forum/447083-slantnose-slant-nose-slope-m505-factory-930s-documents-registry-ultimate-flachbau.html - which states that the slant 930S prototype was built in 1980, and first recorded customer delivery was 1981. Stock 3.0 930's are collectible, A factory 930S is collectible - this is neither. If you want a very fast 930 hotrod, there's been some outstanding ones for sale recently, with the asking price a fraction of the build cost (and substantially less than this car). They would leave a factory 930S for dead. That's progress.

There is a high mileage 1976 on ebay right now for 22K. It looks to be in nice shape.
