Latest ebay sale For those watching yesterday
http://www.early911sregistry.org/forum/showthread.php?t=34650
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/545788-1973-porsche-911-rsr-3-0l.html Gentlemen, Do you think that eBay cuts you a deal when you tell them whoops you bought your own car back on E-bay? (Sarcasm here) Or when you tell them you advertised this car on three different bulletin boards(including this one) found out you had a bunch of interest and offers, so you put it on eBay. Then it sold for $500 less than you originally asked plus you had to pay the listing fee? All of this after turning down numerous asking price offers because it was to be a cash only deal........ One of these two scenarios happened to this guy yesterday and I think it is funny as hell. I put in my bid for the car. Sure was a nice looking car. I was outbid ![]()

I wouldnīt tell ebay you bid on your own car. Its part of their terms and conditions that you donīt bid on your items. Ebay recently successfully sued someone in Europe for doing exactly that

Nice! So are you saying you wanted the car but the owner bought it back by bidding on it? If so then you've got a case to present eBay IMO.

car
I don't know if it was his bid or not. The way the bidding went and the dollar amount that it stopped at made it look fishy to me.
We wanted to by the car for $18,500 as listed here. He wanted a cash only deal, which given our location differences is out of the question. I actually just wanted the wheels and the tranny. A friend wanted the Roller and the motor we would have sold. For those who watched the events of this sale unfold I believe we all found the whole deal amusing. An if the $17955 bid was a real one? That guy is likely a happy man. We shall see if it pops up for sale again.

Let’s see, I guess getting ridiculous means getting too much action on a car for sale….so dump it on ebay to the highest bidder…..and…..what a surprise it turned off the actual REAL buyers, imagine that.
We should all be so lucky….. Here’s another suggestion after spending your time and money building such a cool car, be selective and place it in a good home…..money is not the end game here…..if it was we would all pick a different hobby.

Hmmm. Seller has been around here since 2002, with close to 3000 posts. He seems credible, at least credible enough that if I really wanted the car, I'd fly out to see it with a wad of cash in hand.
And frankly, with so many scammers, nutcases and bad checks floating around, I'd probably want cash also. I held out for cash when I sold my boat. |

Even with an all cash deal you can still get ripped if all the bills have the same serial number!!....LOL

I personally wouldnt hand someone 18,500 in cash. Thats just me and not how business is typically transacted in 2010. This guy has his head in the sand... Very few people do sales like that anymore. You go to your bank, get a certified check, you exchange the check for a clear title and you do it all at the local title company or DMV so nothing sinister happens.

it's called shill bidding and it is illegal on ebay.
Shill bidding happens when anyone bids on an item in order to artificially increase its price or desirability. Shill bidding also happens when someone a seller knows bids on the seller's item. This includes family members, friends (including online friends), roommates, or employees. take a look at the winning bidder's stats, it really does make you wonder... <table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%"><tbody><tr><td valign="top" width="33%"><table class="contentValueFont" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr><td colspan="2">Bidder Information</td> </tr> <tr> <td nowrap="nowrap">Bidder:</td> <td nowrap="nowrap"> ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() </td></tr></tbody></table>

DMV is not going to make sure the funds are good, and around here title companies just do real estate. Each deal is different, titles are not always clear. For example, I just bought a truck from Ohio, seller had a loan. Wanted me to get a certified check, made out to his bank, and he would mail me title later. No way I was leaving Ohio w/o a title. So I wired funds to his bank, flew to Ohio to inspect truck, went to his bank, I approved the transfer, they released title and he signed title to me witnessed by bank notary. |

If you missed it the first time, it's available again. Car spent the last week on ebay only to have the out of state high bidder get cold feet. At this point I am pretty insistant on finding a local cash buyer for the car. hehe ya right... his other ebay account got cold feet... nice try.

That guy has been around a while. I believe he buys/sells cars for a living or just a hobby.
I'd be happy to take a look if someone were serious about buying it.

Hey you guys. I plead no contest, I am a screwball. Always have been. but you are way off on the shill bidding. If you look me up, you will see I sell my stuff, not hold it for ransom. I talked the actual winning bidder out of buying (not on purpose).
At $18,500, I think most thought it was more than it is, and would have been disappointed. (to be crystal clear, top $$$ is not the motivator for this sale, simple hand to hand cash transaction is). In the interest of getting it sold, and considering the damage I've done to this poor cars integrity, I will be showing it today and this weekend in the $15K/$16.5K range, and can afford to sell it for much less than that. I would be surprised though if goes much lower. I mean, you figure: Good running 3.0l and 915 combo would sell for $5000 +/- New Lindsey wheels and tires $4500 +/- Flawless Recaros $1000 +/- Clean title straight non sunroof 73 Coupe roller $5000+/- Not to mention a bunch of other crap $+++ Right? hmmm, now I am thinking again (not good), maybe if nobody in Northern Ca has to have this car, or I literally scared everyone off, I will part it out. PM me what you think, or if your in the market for any of the larger ticket items mentioned.... Anywho, thx all and sorry, I am the headcase you think I am...but I am working on it. Derek |

sure.... i mean everyone sells a car for $18k and then talks the (supposed legitimate) buyer out of the deal less than 24 hours after the auction ends, then offers to sell the car for $2000-3500 LESS than what a (supposed legitimate) buyer is willing to pay 24 hours after that. makes perfect sense.
