Let's assume everything stated is true. That means the car has been driven about 300 miles a year over the last 24 years. Basically a tank of gas a year. I'm not sure that is necessarily a good thing.

If you had the car what would you ask for it? I think it is within spitting distance of it's value. Mid $40's.

Q: How much are you seeking for this car? Why are the miles so low? Sep-06-11
A: We are seeking the highest sales price possible. The buyers bidding on the car in this auction will set that price.
Thats a great answer.
It is a clean car, I am eager to see where this auction goes.

I would pay more a 50K mile car then I would pay for this one. A car that isn't exercised quickly becomes a candidate for replacement of an amazing quantity of parts.

I said nothing about it's worth. I was simply stating that basically the car has been sitting for nearly 25 years and that would raise some questions in my mind about how mechanically sound it is. If I was making a bid, I would make sure I factored in some extra coin in my budget for repairs.

The answer to what someone is willing to pay for it depends on whether you want to drive it or you want a museum piece.

So you buy it for 50K, then what do you do with it? Let it sit and rot further. What a waste.

Totally agree. There is nothing rare or special about this car, and daily drivers of the same year can be found all day long for half that price.

Hi Tirwin,

My post is misleading. I was not pushing back on what you said. I was using your "if all is true" comment to lead into a (non-associated with you or your original post) rhetorical question to the collective of what the heck is an "oddball" car like that worth.

I does look like I directed the question to you. Not my intention.

Hey no worries. I probably took it the wrong way. We had a layoff at work yesterday and had to let go of some good people. I've been in a bit of a foul mood ever since.

I guess the simplest answer is it's worth whatever someone will pay for it!

I have to say that I purchased a relatively low mileage car (65k on an '83). That was not my intent when I purchased it -- I bought it from a friend whom I knew had taken very good care of the car so it was a buyer's confidence thing in purchasing my first Porsche. Before purchasing I had a typical mindset of high mileage = probably abused. But now I think "how could you not DRIVE these cars????" Such a waste...
