1970 conda green targa project
Any input on possible value of a conda green targa project?
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/645432-fs-1970-conda-green-targa-project.html#post6437939 ![]() Pretty solid project needing some minor welding. Getting my 71E out of paint next week and could use the room and some $$s. I posted a $10k price but do not think it is worth that much. But I had to start somewhere! If you were in the market, how much would you pay? Yes i know it is a targa ![]() This one has to go so I can concentrate on my 71E coupe, then get started on a 71E targa.

Should I get her in paint and as a roller, then sell?
Paint is ~$5k, roller is probably another $5k with brakes, bushings, suspension, etc.. I dont think I would get another $10k for all that hard work.

If this is a T..... $10,000 is a strong number given the amount of work required and the end value. If it is an S the number is very fair.....

A project like this will never make "sense" in any conventional analysis. The buyer will have an emotional attachments to '70 Conda Targas... meaning that buyer could be difficult to find. For the expense of restoring vs. market value, the car as it sits would have to be free. And yet it has a basic part out value that is in the mid-high 4 figures.
Really not possible to put a value on it as a project. As parts, maybe $8500...

Thanks guys. Pretty much what I thought. As a buyer I would not pay more than $5k, but as a seller it is worth much more.
![]() I paid $5k about 5 years ago. I was hoping for ~$7.5k but realistically that will probably never happen. Maybe I will do a driver level restoration and put her in the DD rotation. Or maybe just sit on her and pull parts for the other cars.

I don't know how P-car sales differ across the country, but cars like this have popped up in Utah from time to time, and depending on what comes with it, and how far along you are in getting it ready for paint, it seems the value hovers around $4-5k. I think you paid a far value for it, and unfortunately it probably hasn't gone up in value much. I would love to get one of these projects sometime in the future just to tinker with and put it back together exactly how I want over the course of a few years.
Good luck with the sale! Someone will buy it...I mean, they aren't making any more of them, haha.

Thanks for the input Uncle Scott. A couple offers came in ~$5k so you are inline with the others. I have more into her than that, so I will hold on to her.

I really want to move this car so I can start on another project.
eBay is not really my thing, but I am thinking maybe put the engine back in and run a no reserve auction? Or just keep her in storage another year or two?

I don't think that there will be much increase in the price of project cars in the next year or two. Here are the reasons, IMHO,
1) Supply of nicer cars--There are plenty of 'nice' cars that will come up for sale over the next year or two (death, divorce, etc) 2) The economy is still in the crapper. The net effect of this encourages people to pull their projects out of storage for re-sale while at the same time hindering the purchase of a 'multi-year money-pit'. (as a wife may call it )3) Germany was the driver of the price increase in these cars for many years, but if you read the headlines about the euro you see that not much help can be expected from that area. 4) Elections here in the USA--lotta people on both sides of the aisle are truly kinda nervous about this election, which is another reason to put off buying a 'mulit-year project' with related expenses. So, while we may see price increases in very nice, well-sorted cars in the next year or two, project cars will see very limited upside growth as buyers will have lots of choices for 't's. From an investment standpoint, you'd be better off in two years by selling it now and buying stock in Apple (IMHO). However, if you need it for parts for your other projects then the calculation is much different. |

Quote:
The market for T Targas has gotten stronger and if you have the means or ability to complete this project the car can sell from $25,000 as a driver to $60,000+ as a high end restoration. You start with a great color as an advantage. As a project the buyers for this car (mostly professionals) would have to see tremendous upside (read Profit). Ultimately, this devalues what you have.

Thanks guys.
I am really torn on this one. Restore the conda green targa and cruise around until I finish the other targa project. Or sell and use the funds to help restore the other project. Since nobody wants her, maybe the decision was made for me!

Ok, so I have decided to keep the car.
Mainly to pick parts from for this car: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/679121-isnt-she-beautiful.html#post6759416 I havent gotten any acceptable offers for the T, so I will use her a parts car until the E is done and then go from there. Am I crazy?

I sold my 1970 911T targa on Ebay to these guys for $9k
Seeland Klassische Porsche // Willkommen The car needed $10k+ of paint and rust work. They took it to bare metal, returned it to it's original color, restored it and sold it to a gentleman in Germany for 55,000 Euro.
