Value: 1-off 959 Conversion
Trying to get a value for this vehicle.
1982 Grey market 930 chassis imported into U.S. and then converted to 959 specs. Body panels alone cost $25K back in the day. Engine thoroughly modified. Countless man hours invested. 46k original miles. Concours condition throughout Been owning it for almost 20 years. Still great to drive, nothing else (except the real thing) like it. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Now accepting US $ at par

So does the "conversion to 959 specs" include twin-turbocharged engine with water-cooled cylinder heads, complex electronic AWD system, and selectable ride-height adjustment (for example)? Would need some more detail on the conversion.
Cool looking car to be sure but may not be any more valuable than the "donor" 930 was. You will need a very specific kind of buyer to get top dollar for this car. Cheers, she's a beauty. d.

A few of these were done back in the day, to varying degrees of quality, but I have never seen one where the mods added much if any value to the donor car. A very hard sell, and in many cases viewed as a negative to value, but a lot depends on the quality of the work and the correctness of the mods.

Having seen a lot of these conversions. Have to say, this is the best looking one I've seen.

I would price the car $40,000 to $50,000 and see how it is recieved..... ultimately it is a turbo....

What's an '82 (euro) turbo bring these days? $30K
Its likely worth more to you (the owner/builder) than to the vast majority of pelicanites. This would move better perhaps in an ebay/craigslist ad. To me, the kit is a "minus" in terms of value. What does "engine thoroughly modified" actually mean? Any other upgrades? How about the suspension? Are you looking for a value from a "selling" perspective or for, say, insurance purposes?

To most this conversion would be a huge negative and it would be extremely hard to speculate on a price. I would be shocked if it brought more than $12k on eBay.

I think the other challenge is that Turbos seem to be climbing in value as of late.. cetainly early unmoleted ones. One might argue that for the US, an '82 is a gray market car and not worth as much.. others might argue the other side since an '82 would be more rare in the US. Comes down to finding someone who like the currently owner, really likes the 959 kit and then the quality of the kit and install of it as well.

959
If looking to sell, I would be interested to discuss the vehicle further.

Every time I see one of VMC's adds with that "service integrity trust" on the wall it makes my stomach turn given their reputation.
Intercooler in the rear fender on the 959 clone? Not my cup of tea but looks in the pics well done.

Hmm - not sure why VMC would have such a terrible rep. I asked around and everyone seems to like the guy behind the name. Read the feedback on Ebay - 100% positive. Maybe I' m missing something...

You are missing a ton. Do a search, they have a TERRIBLE reputation on just about any car site. Just do a google search, about 10 of the first 20 results are warnings about them.
Ebay feedback is worthless since they made changes a few years back.

Very indeed very cool car, it is currently selling for about 1/25 of an original ones price so not too bad. Wonder if you can drop the rear down a bit, probably the only area where it needs some attention to get a correct effect.

Dude, this is like selling a blow up doll and claiming it might sometimes when your eyes are closed, be your hot first cousin.
Part it out IMO. Might get more money that way. |

Followed a similar car, believe from Texas. Progressively reduced price and I think it finally sold at $25k. Parting a grey market 930 will net about that but not worth the effort.
Nice looking car and you may find a nonPorsche buyer to pay that much. |
