1965 911 engine value?

I have a 1965 911, serial number 301981 with a chassis that is far to rusted to restore. The engine and transmission has been removed, and I was wondering how much are these engines worth. The engine ran when the car was last parked 30 years ago, however it would need a full overhaul. The engine block does not appear to have any damage, but any steel parts on the engine will most likely need to be replaced. Also, is the engine worth more together with the transmission, or should things be separated out individually.

At this point in time there is almost no such thing as a '65 chassis that is far too rusted to restore. I would post photos of the chassis on the technical board - a '65 chassis is a rare thing nowadays. Even if the floors/rockers/front pan/etc are completely gone it still is a '65 chassis which may be too gone for YOU, but not someone else.

What he said. If the various vin locations on the car are intact, regardless of title situation, that car is saveable. The most likely buyer is a European, though there are some Americans who see the value of them too.

The car body rusted into multiple sections. The dashboard, which is part of the unibody was only connected by wiring and the steering shaft. Aside from the roof, there was no steel left between the dashboard, and the rear seats. I would love to see this car back on the road however, There are no structurally sound pieces of chassis aside from the top of the roof that are left on the car. Maybe if someone had an empty shell all the parts could be transferred over, but at that point I don't think it would qualify as a numbers matching car.

Rear 1/3 of car (I know this is a horrible picture, but it is all I currently have)

That is a beautiful job of restoring the dashboard with all the meters in place!!!!! Great job. Interested in what is for sale once you determine the value. Thanks.

Everything but the dashboard and the attached components are for sale, unless someone were to over a high sum for the entire lot in the hopes of somehow rebuilding the car out of the remnants.

I am currently working wiring up the gauges and seeing what is required to make them work. The fluid level and pressure gauges only need a 12v source and a potentiometer to become functional, but the tachometer would require some sort of high voltage pulse generator as far as I know to imitate the signal from the engine coil. I have wired the turn signal and wiper stalks to act as paddle shifters, and control other in game functions.

Gauges lit up

Here is a link to the project website. Note, I have the year for the car incorrectly listed as a 67. Porsche Driving Simulator

I would agree with you on this account in most every case, but this car has become dust. I've never seen a chassis this far gone!

That's very cool: I would like the mahogany for my car but am sure you don't want to part with it! But kudos for doing something with the pieces remaining. I hope the engine gets back to a working state too!

I would question if the engine and transmission were any good. Aluminum rots just like many other metals. As to question on the mahogany........just find a specialty wood store.

Probably a veneer, and if not, then the store will slice you chunk.....all it takes is money.

In all my years I have never seen a car that bad..........damn...........

In my defense, I stated the above before I ever saw the photos. Ahem, yes, but I still would be saying this if the rusted bits were a Ferrari 250 California or a Ford GT-40 - then you only need the VIN plate plus a door handle. Who knows, in 25 more years the VIN tag plus engine will probably be a viable restoration starting point on a '65...
