Porsche : 911 Carrera Coupe 2-Door in Porsche | eBay Motors

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/747920-1987-911-carrera-g50-3-2-liter-coupe-grand-prix-white-black-interior.html

Before the dealer/flipper lovers jump in on this post, no nothing wrong with profit making. Just want Pelicans to know the situation.

Yeah, the wacky eBay wheels just kill the thing.

Original Fuchs make it look A LOT better.

That's an asking price. Pretty steep IMHO. May only make a few G on this one. I would not take that risk. $21k for that car and trying to flip it is NOT a no-brainer.

I recently looked at a 930 at a local dealer and he offered it to me for $28,000. Nice car but needed work so I passed. A month later another dealer from a different state offered me the same car for $39,000 and did not do any of the work that the car needed which included a paint job. I think it is good to disclose these sales so when someone is looking they can make a more informed decision.

Good looking car - price is not out of this world. That being said I would never buy a car knowing that the PO was someone who put "gangsta´wheels" on the car. Says a lot about the PO´s priorities, imo.

Good for the new seller. I mean, really, you have to put a price on specialized knowledge, and this seller on Pelican obviously has it. Nothing wrong with buying a car that has wrongs and making it right and then passing it on. Obviously the seller knows what he is doing and sells lots of cars this way. It takes time, money, and knowledge to do this and this has to be accounted for somewhere. I hope it sells for his new asking price. Sometimes I wish I could do the same but I don't have that money right now and I am still working on the knowledge part...

Locating, inspecting, negotiating, repairing, restoring, investing and risking are hopefully part of the payoff when you sell for a profit... ask me how I know?

I believe the OP was only making us aware of this transaction, he even states "nothing wrong with profit making", and he's right, there isn't.

Making a 30 - 40% return on the face of it sounds better than it usually ends up. If the seller purchased for $21k and sells for $29k and had to invest 0 $$ in this car (which I seriously doubt) he stands to make a nice return on his investment. If he does this for a business and supports his family, pays wages, overheads etc his margin erodes and is left with a lower bottom-line.

Best wishes with the sale, looks like a nice car in a desirable color combination.

Mike

At $21k -- with low miles and the original Fuchs wheels included -- he got a smoking deal.

It is worth noting that he bought it on Ebay -- not from the old lady whose husband just died and sold it without knowing what it was worth.

I am chuckling at the poster who wouldn't buy a car from a guy who put aftermarket rims on the car because that somehow says something about the prior owner. They aren't my cup of tea, but that is just a taste thing. Perhaps he wanted larger wheels for handling reasons -- and you can only buy Fuchs at smaller diameters. He kept the original wheels, and offered them with the sale.

The ad has some extensive receipts -- many of them for parts from Pelican -- indicating that the guy likely turned his own wrenches on the car, and made a lot of upgrades. That would be an indicator that he didn't neglect maintenance on the car.

Assuming the valve guides are not burned up, the current asking price is not out of this world. Good for the seller.

So, he's in business? Seems kinda cheesy to piggyback on the access given for free at PP. No server costs, no seller fees, slap on some tires, take some pictures and net more than $5k out of the deal?

I hope that with the info posted here, a Pelikaner looking to buy would make an offer that would keep the margin down to a minimum.

free market. I see nothing wrong with this. hell most people on this site would do the same thing if they could get a quick flip for $5K.
good for the new owner- good buy.

I have no problem with that. If the seller let it go for less than market value than that was his choice. Hell, I'll sell my car for $27k right now and if someone flips it for more good for them.

I agree, there should be a way that dealers are identified on PP. Some of these sellers are pretending they are enthusiasts or collectors to make buyers feel comfortable and do less due dilligence. I would be much less inclined to buy a car from someone who had owned a car for 7 days. When someone has owned a car long term with receipts it offers more assurance than someone who just bought it on ebay. The best PPI in the world won't pick up everything.

Neither do I. Plenty of 'regular/pro' sellers on both the parts & car4sale forums.

Buyer should always do some research, let it be carfax, checking receipts, prior owners and getting a PPI.

A simple 'right click' on a users name will let you search their posts, and see that a majority are in the 4sale forum.
