betting the seller's not quite up to speed on what they've got there

this comment made me cringe a bit:

"This is a car for restoration or for parts"

yargh!

P7s are literally disintegrating... crykie. What a shameful waste to let a car sit and wither away like that... sigh...

I spoke to Richard Sloane yesterday about this car and told him my intention was to get this roach for $40k and do the full resto...he laughed and said the car would fetch close to $60 based on the colors alone.

he was also very clear that the market is blowing up and the "internet jockeys" have no clue on what real well heeled buyers (with real money) will pay! it is about time we stop selling these cars short!!

buckle up boys!!!

I wonder how much restoration money that car would need to bring it from a #4 car to a #2? The oddball color combo will bring big dollars but that car is also quite a mess and needs almost everything.

Is that viper green?

it has been mentioned. that was how I found it.

Pricing for that green one is insane. It needs one of everything. I just dont get it, at all.

My car has oxidized paint, but is very low miles and nearly perfect otherwise. I put its value right about where that car is.

you may need to recalibrate your pricing.

this is a rabid market to some but to those who understand the importance of the 930 in Porsche road going and racing history...the love was expected!!!

Seller does not even have to go through the trouble... these are the guys trolling the ebay US!

You would be surprised at the number of cars going back to Europe.

aschen 02-06-2014 07:28 AM

Im sure I do need to recalibrate, though I am aware of the craziness. I do feel like I have a pretty good handle on the importance and charm of the 930 though. I have had mine for 18 years and it has been in the family since new and I believe I have check this site nearly every day for the last 15 years (had another user name but forgot the password).

75k for a great car, I can almost understand. 45+ k for the green one seems silly to me still. It needs a respray and complete overhaul. It has gotta be another 35+k to do that right and you are still left with a restored car.

Im sure it will end up in one of the air cooled boutique dealer for huge money and then sit stagnant in somebodies fancy garage.

I guess my issue is not with understanding going on, but that it saddens me a bit.

My 76 US 930 went back to Germany seven years ago via eBay.

I too have owned 930's for a long time...>20 yrs! Don't be sad. It is nice to see our cars finally being recognized!

mine is not for sale at any rate!

by the way, in no way should I have insinuated that you did not have an understanding of the car and importance...I apologize if that came across.

aschen 02-06-2014 07:52 AM

no offense taken, but I was being a bit snarky :). No problem.

Anyways, I am not saddened by high prices by themselves. I just hope most of these cars remain in thier native habitat on the road or track and not in museums.

when I was just a bit younger I used to appreciate the fantastically original Barret jackson type restored low miles cars. These days I think, the high miles, sorta dingy, well loved and patina cars are the coolest.

When I read that in the listing, I thought to myself they must own the car so cheap to make that statement.
Maybe something like under 20k, starting at 15k with no reserve.
Their rolling on the floor laughing at the big score.

Oooooooh, you'd LOVE my car then!!! 8-)

I think I washed it 2x last year?

icemann427 02-06-2014 09:25 AM

I don't know about him, Paulie, but I've always loved your ass...Of your car!

In china the second hand market is about to change (law) . At this moment they can't import a car unless the car is only a few month's old (they have the money and Porsche's are popular and especially the 930) Also in Russia classic Porsche become more popular... there are more and more Porsche clubs rising up like mushrooms ... and then there is knight frank luxury index. Classic cars are a popular investment so prices are rising.
Two years ago buying a 930 was an easy job having 25000€ budget ... if I want to buy the same car right now... you have to pay 45.000€! Sadly because I'm looking to buy a second one.
let my know if you have one for sale for less then 30000$ !

I called my insurance company and they said that an agreed value of over $60k was possible on my car.

Heh, my colleague just emailed me that last night suggesting I'd better park my car in a bubble.

Damn, was going to post the pic but it's a .pdf apparently - so linky will have to suffice:

Price Guide Report

So, if my car were boneass stock and a #1, it'd be - what - $95k? Um, yeah. Not to mention, I'd have to go and kick me own ass for parking it in said bubble.

Fuchthat.

So... I think the GR flebay sale @ $75k linked here pretty much disproves Haggerty's pie / sky asshoalery. That car was at least a #1+, if not a #1.

Not to say the values ain't on the up - they are - but I gotta get me somma what Haggerty's schmokin' thar, they be all bogartin' dat shiit yo - PASS IT BISH!

Alas... that "$58k ave" sure makes good Wifefodder... "hey honey, see why I keep / have to keep spending $$$ on that POS smelly loud car of mine that you can never even pretend to think of even trying to drive???".

Perrrrfect!

Gotta give What's Her Face some credit tho - up on showing her 'that', she rightly and brightly quipped "of course they say those are the values... they want to sell you more insurance". Smart one, she is...

krasuskyp 02-07-2014 05:43 AM

roflmao... just noticed...

...the pics Haggerty uses - to substantiate an alleged nearly 6fig car - are of a Carrera Targa (all but the last one, which is some Euro Purple People eater)

brilliance!!!

I looked closely at the high bidders on that green ebay car and they look real sketchy to me. One bidder ,I think the high bidder , has 28 retractions and another guy has a bunch. So I'm gonna remove those results from my brain . But I'll still see if it sells . But I won't believe it if it sells.

I checked the bid history on the green car on ebay. The two high bidders look very sketchy and suspect. One has 28 bid retractions and the other one a bunch as well. I'm going to follow it and see if it sells ,but I won't necessarily believe that it sold

Sorry for doubling up ,now tripling up. Apologies.

the green car is a great PTS 1 off? color combo, but this car would be a better deal. unique color also but not as rare. wonder why the snorks are gone if it wasn't wreaked.

Porsche 930 Turbo | eBay

Some rare options like power steering and the small side bolster sport seats however lots of other things look nice.

Ha! I wonder if the person that wrote that listing meant to say "arm-power steering"? :D

I believe porsche superseded the old snorkels with the newer flat ones anytime they needed replacement. It may even have been a tsb, that's why you see so many early cars with the flat ones, not necessarily from accidents.
At least that's what I always heard, somebody may know for sure.
