Yeah, anyone who'd get rid of a gorgeous blue coupe like that must be insane!

Honestly, I'm not interested in selling at all but I would certainly pause at offers over the mid-30s range, which may be optimistic for a car with a recently complete 75k mile service, R134a conversion, and a cocaine white interior.

But I believe the condition of my car to be borderline concourse, curated and maintained by its last two fastidious and possibly obsessive owners. The only thing it needs are the front seat bolsters redone which I plan to do this spring and a new cruise control cable which I refuse to pay $192 for on principle.

I wouldn't want to be that guy!

(I said the same thing about myself when I sold my 993 C2S for $35,000)

Yeah, don't be that guy again! Your Baltic Beauty is a keeper, especially with its mileage and condition. Ride her into the sunset! She'll only be harder to replace and more money 5 or 10 years from now.
Seller's remorse is a terrible thing -- it can haunt you and taunt you for years!

On the flip side I just bought this clean 964 for $15k after leaving a note on it.

C4 or C2? Mileage? Original paint?

Sounds like a steal regardless (even if it is heathen red).

C4, 110K, original paint, service history from new.

speeder 03-04-2014 10:24 AM

If all of the mechanical updates have been done and it's not in need of any expensive repairs, that was a solid deal. I assume that is one of the first 1989 964s, all C4s in red?

speeder 03-04-2014 10:31 AM

As for the note on the windshield, the entire country, (and especially CA.), is crawling with people who either suddenly want an early 911 or are flippers or their agents/bird dogs hoping to find the last poor slob who doesn't own a computer and is 5 years behind on 911 values.

Interestingly, none of these people wanted an early 911 for the last 40 years when they were 1/10th the price. They would sit for sale like any other car when a good 911T was $6k back in 2007. Now that they cost as much as they do, suddenly every swinging dick in San Francisco wants to drive a stinky old 911? GMAFB...

They're all flippers/exporters. The supply of cars and sucker owners is drying-up and these guys are in a panic because they have no clue how to make an honest living once this hustle is over.

And people are chasing around 3.2 Carreras??

Your car is beautiful, BTW. I'm not surprised that people are after it, I'd even put a note on that thing. But 3.2 Carreras in general were sold in relatively HUGE numbers and almost all of them are still on the road.

Thanks. Sure, plenty were made but relatively stock, solid condition, non-accident coupes are difficult to find unless you're willing to pay asking prices that are $10,000+ more than sellers were asking just 5 years ago.

MrBonus 03-04-2014 12:09 PM

Of course, I just noted that your location is Los Angeles and I found a lot of palatable cars during my hunt in your region but didn't want to deal with the logistics of buying, inspecting, and shipping a car 3000 miles.

Out here in the land of salt and winters, 3.2s in general are a bit rougher due to year 'round usage earlier in their existence.

lovely day for p-car hunting

"Relatively HUGE" compared to what?

13-17k cars a year for Carreras is small production compared to almost any car from a major marque not named Ferrari or Lamborghini.

The 69-73 cars were produced in about the same numbers, give or take 1-2 thousand per year.

No they were not. You don't know what you're talking about.

Maybe my source is wrong, but I don't see a substantive difference in production numbers. We are talking a 10-15% difference, depending on the year.

They were built in numbers of upwards of 15,000 per year and while production is lower than the lowly 3.2s, they certainly weren't built in significantly scarce numbers. Of course, we are talking about older cars which means more time for more negligent owners to allow them to fall into disrepair.
