High Markup

I am beginning to think dealers greed is sucking the fun out of these cars. This specific car was very nice and a few people on the early 911 registry wanted it but unfortunately a dealer jumper in within a couple of hours. Now an extra 30k and pretty much the same words in the add:

November:

FS: 1975 US Carrera

Now:

Excellence :: Porsches for Sale : 1975 Carrera for sale in Florence, AL

I know US Carreras have been going up but I think that dealer is delusional.

A couple of regular Midyears got posted here yesterday close to $40k. I'm not buying it. I think their day is coming but not yet.

We'll have to see how the SC market goes. I'm not sure how any regular mid-year is worth more than any SC in the same condition/miles.

Seems weird to me that the longhood frenzy would push the mid-years much at all.

The guy's trying to make a buck, (or 30). That doesn't fit my definition of greed. He thinks it is a great car, and that someone will pay up for it. I wouldn't bet against him.

An original 74 targa is listed pending sold in the classifieds. Took two days and he was asking 39.5K. I believe the mid-year push has arrived, especially when in good original shape.

Assuming its a real sale. I sent him a pm within an hour of the rough '74 Targa being listed and still haven't heard back. I'm a genuine buyer who would fly out to inspect the car and take it to for a PPI. But it doesn't seem to be a priority to him. Maybe a $13k car is less interesting to the seller than the $39k car.

I just know in my business the guy needing a $25k Cup gearbox rebuild and a guy needing a single $800 915 gear are treated equally.

Seems before and after prices to me seem stupid.....45k and 75k....it's time to buy something else..gee...you as a working stiff has that money laying around in a drawer. To me the car is neither rare or desirable....ya low mileage but usually it's bogus...

This guy DRD (also has another ID here on Pelican which I can't remember) always asks top money for nicely photographed, but what are in reality fairly average, often higher mile cars. The platinum SC has been hanging around as has the overpriced Meteor car amongst others. This black car was on Ebay for a couple pf listing cycles and had no takers so we'll never know what the actual sale price was.
To me the most interesting car he has ever had is the Fraise / Rose red car and like Matt I sent an email on the day it was listed and heard nothing back.

I'm sure this thread will see DRD and his very own Mr Hyde chime in soon springing to his defense.

Count me as that guy then. I bought a truly excellent 1960 VW Bus from him earlier this year that was more than fairly priced.

On the 1975 U.S. Carrera that started this thread, I really wanted this car when it was sold on the 911sRegistry but missed it by a couple hours. I called the new seller the eveinng the car was re-listed and made a good offer. He said he wants the whole $75k or nothing. So much for "OBO".

Maninblack, I don't think that makes you "Hyde". That makes you a known and legitimate customer who can attest to a good transaction.
I just hope the guy pings me sooner rather than later. I could care less about the color or the salvage title. I want a '74 targa. I'm feeling oddball these days.

Yes I also wanted it and missed it. I guess what frustrates me is that a few legitimate enthusiasts wanted this car to use and enjoy and instead a dealer jumps in straight away and now flips the car for over 30k profit in a couple of months with no value add. I know its a free market and all but its getting hard with all the dealers trolling everything, pretending to be collectors etc.

Speaking of markup, this was listed within the last hour and I'm willing to bet it will reappear with a front end respray for 20k more.
