964 value help

hi,

trying to find my first air-cooled car, would like some help assessing the value of one im looking at:

its a 90 C2 coupe with 100k miles and a good repaint. the engine was resealed at 85k miles (in 2003, 2 owners ago) as the car wouldn't idle well, by someone called star motors in missouri - looks like camshafts, rocker shafts and rocker arms were replaced at this time. right rear has been repaired at some point.

The interior is 7/10ish and all stock - one bolster on drivers seat needs reupholstering and the headliner could use some glue in a couple spots. a few other minor cosmetic things that need addressing including gauge refinishing, and the AC doesnt work. Current owner has the previous owners records going back to 2003ish. Bilsteins, some kind of sport exhaust and a cat bypass were installed at some point prior to this. car comes with 17" boxter twists, and brake pads are at like 75%.

my PPI shows only oil seepage from the oil cooler and slight seepage from cylinder barrels. car starts and pulls well with no smoke, and there are no oil spots in the current owners garage. current owner replaced the oil lines when he bought it in 2010.

whats this car worth?

Don't think that the lack of response here is the board not wanting to help. The problem is that 964 pricing has gone bonkers; at least asking prices have. And because Porsche didn't make that many of them, there aren't a lot of data points to work from in order to guide you. Unfortunately, some sellers seem to confuse rare with desirable and want a super premium for 964's. It befuddles me that 964's are being advertised for $10k+++ more than a comparable 993.

Taking everything into account, I'm in the $30-35k range. If the price is a lot higher, I'd make the jump to a 993.

91 964 Value

I actually consulted our Porsche Garage a few months back on the same year car, he said 90 and 91 were notorious for leaks -- once you remove the valley pan it's like a spring shower --- cost to pull and reseal the engine was approx - $3500 - $4500 - so consider that before making the final offer.

I think if that car was listed in the Pelican classifieds, it would bring mid 30's pretty quick.

Here's another black C2 that just sold, was listed at $39k, so I assume it sold for something close to that price, which is surprisingly considering all the non-original bits.

If you can get the car in the OP for $30-35k, you'll be doing just fine. Sounds like a good car that needs just a little differed maintenance.

This sounds like lore that dates from the initial production cars that did not have cylinder head gaskets.

But yes, if you look under the car and the entire underside is coated with oil, that would be an issue worth negotiating.
