What is your honest opinion on this Cayman

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/824074-2008-cayman-s.html

I think i need one, but do not want a silver, black or red one. (The common colors.)
That leaves a once in awhile blue one or this one (green) .
The interior is not really for me..........but.....
What do you guys and gals think of this car and the price ?
thanx!

Love the color. And the interior actually works for me. That's a touch more than I would want to spend on a gen I S but they might get close to it for that color.

I like the color combo... It's the same as my car! Price is slightly high for a gen 1 like Matt mentioned. Considering you don't want the common colors, talk with the seller, you never know...

Personally I really like the green & Tan. A nice car. The 2009 motor is nice but pretty rare and will probably cost you another $10k for an S model. Offer $31.5 and see if she bites.

Have you looked at the color selection on the current (991/981) cars? BO-ring.

Visit a dealer and your choices are black gray gray gray silver silver white brown metallic... and sometimes a red. You can choose yellow or go for any 'paint to sample' color you want.

But mostly, current Porsche colors are right out of the 1988 Buick color selector.

IOW, the green/tan will really stand out.

I am not sure why most all the auto industry is coloring with this dull crap.
Maybe it is like the wide /narrow neck tie thing.
Truly i wish there was a American car worth buying...I am not a Vett fan, and the GT40 is far out of my range but my very favorite .
So its porsche again.
I have always had the 911. i am thinking the mid engine would be a nice change.

Afterburn, most of the hard core long hood people I hang with would choose a Cayman as a 'modern driver' alternative to their vintage Porsches. I know a few people with them and there are no negatives. By the way, did you know there's a Cayman convertible? It's true. I'm on my 3rd. :-)

There is always the BMW Z3 M Coupe if you need a fun DD.

Hard money on this car is 28500-29000. If you want it make your best deal.

It's true that the 2008 and earlier 911 / 987's had IMS but failure rates seem to be very low for the 07/08's.

The 09 received the DFI engine which is still in use today and appears to be reliable although there is talk about carbon buildup on the intake.

+1 - unless it was a smoking deal and the color combo I wanted, I'd look for a '09 or newer. There are too many of the M96/97 engines crapping out these days. I had a friend brag about how reliable his 997 ('05) had been, minimal maintenance, etc., and of course the IMS let go and destroyed the engine shortly thereafter (around 70k miles).

I do not think a 2009 "S" would cost 10000 more. she is asking 35K . A jump to 45K takes one almost to 2012 "R" model range !
As of right now i can not see much over 20K..It has a Lot of built in liabilities, IMS, resale someday, these issues will be a continuous detriment to value .
If the past is like the future the "R" will be the Holy Grail in about 10 years. Their price will be like a angry Volcano -ever more and higher.
I have learned a lot here - A 2009 looks better and better all the time. Seems like a no brainer .
A 2008 ( and older ) would have to be dirt cheap at this point..
BMW is mostly a great car, but just not interested.
Audi - Not interested. could not tell you why, Just not.
Techweenie -A convertible ? Really? I did not know that !
Is it noisy ? Every convertible i have ever been in transcribes all noises magnificently to the cabin ! LOL

You are smoking if you think Caymans will do anything but go down in value for the next decade or more. R model or not.
