73 911S one owner

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/834313-fs-1973-911s-targa-original-owner.html

I hope I am allowed to discuss a for sale listing here if not please delete this post.

This car has suffered around $100k worth of modification damage at the hands of the owner. I don't make the rules but that's the way it is.

Almost 2000 postings and no clues. Wow.

I don't know the up-to-the-minute market as well as certain others here, (like TW), but I'd think that the asking price is in the realm for 100% original, stock early S targas. Last I checked, anyways.

That said, the mods done to this car were very popular for many years and I have no problem believing that the original owner did them in the '80s. It's all RS stuff and seems to be high quality work. The original MFI is present and the OG engine was rebuilt to '73 RS spec including MFI pump and 8.5:1 2.7 pistons and barrels. It's probably an absolute blast to drive but not sure about that price.

I'm the owner of this car. I'll be the first to admit that I don't know what an actual market value of my car is, I'm not in the buy sell business. I've owned at least one Porsche for every year since I was 17. I've worked on them, raced them and yes, sometimes modified them, so I think you might say I'm a Porsche enthusiast.
This car has not been subjected to some sort of a Miami Vice conversion, a sprinkling of '74 esthetics that are pretty easy to reverse.
I see low mileage original T's priced at close to 200k, RS's at over 750k, S's at 240K, and now a 74 US carrera that looks like it will go for 150K, a nice looking car, but a real dog from a performance standpoint. I don't know if any of you have ever driven an MFI 2.7, but you should add it to your bucket list.
I see a rusted hulk T Targa priced at 12k. I can tell you that a proper restoration of a car like that will easily top 150k. restoring my car to factory original could be done for around 20k.
So, since you guys seem to be really knowledgable about market pricing, what are your suggestions.

1973 S couples seem to be at the 200k mark. I am not sure if a targa is much of a ding. So saying that I don't think your price is off much. Maybe its worth you putting it a little closer to stock so people don't have to imagine the work.

Yes I'm considering starting the restore process. FYI here is a 73S coupe with about the same mods.

You have one posting and you think you can dump on someone's car like that?

As others have said, that was the way these cars were modded back in the day.
(Btw, "modification damage" is barely literate. And what "rules" are you referring to?).

The owner seems like a knowledgeable guy who ignored your insults, explained himself, and politely asked for advice.

Why don't you discuss the topic instead of shooting the messenger?

If by topic, you mean the car, it has been discussed here by me and others. Including the owner.

You have unwittingly introduced another topic into the discussion which would be your bad manners and general ignorance about the costs and "damage" done to said car.

22,086 posts and counting. Should have known you were going to chime in. Again.

I probably overstated the dollar amount of the damage.

"Ignorance" now who has bad manners?

It's still you. What is it with counting everyone's posts? Strange obsession.

Luki,
Welcome to the forum. I appreciate your opening this discussion, but I'd still like to know in a bit more detail, what you consider "damage" and what you consider a good price. As I've stated above I'm not in the business, but I do know a bit about Porsches.
It's tough for me because I really enjoy driving my cars, not collecting them. As far as modifications affecting a cars value, how do you explain Magnus Walker? Even the factory loves him. I agree there are quite a few butchered cars out there, but ever since the 356, ownershave been improving performance of their Porsches for decades. It's only very recently that "originality" became a big issue. Mostly in the people who now look at old Porsches as an investment.
How many of these old cars have you driven or owned? What do you look for in a car? Will you be driving it or storing it?
I'm not insulting you, I just want to learn a bit about what the market is looking for. I'm not very enthusiastic about spending money on being slower or less roadworthy. Especially if I don't know what a prospective purchaser is looking for.
Just dying to learn here.
