77 carrera conversion?
I have a 77 S, if I dropped a 3.0 liter Carrera engine in it and did a nice job on the rear fenders what would the value of the car be at the end of the day?
Assuming the interior is in great shape, the car already has the sport seats which are just awesome. |

Depends on the condition of the car before you start the conversion. I love my 77 conversion - but I did not pay to have all of the work done. I think I stole the car.

If done right, like Scott's (nice car BTW), it could be worth more to the right buyer.
You do have to ask yourself what your motivation is, financial or pleasure. Knowing that makes the decision easier.

Yeah less then stock is definitely not true, A 2.7 liter S with original heat reactors and the like is not that desirable of a car.
If it was a genuine 3.0 Carrera engine and car like Scott's but with period correct sport seats in it I could see it going for 30K. It would be certainly be a fun car to drive. |

A real 3.0 Carrera engine is worth as much, if not more, than the '77 chassis as a perfect roller with everything there except the engine.
Personally, I would skip the flares. But otherwise I would do the swap if I had the engine. And keep the numbers matching case in the corner for if I ever wanted to sell it. That said, I think these,"What will it be worth after I do it?" threads are misguided. If you want to build a hot rod build a hot rod. If you want to invest in a collector quality car, then do that. They are generally not the same thing, and rarely, if ever, will be.

Yeah I have a hotrod 77 already, and just had a glass out repaint done on it. Took a look at it today and it looks fantastic. I dated the mirrors to chrome and got the duck tail sorted out and fitted properly.
It already has a 79 3.0 case with 3.2 liter pistons and cylinders twin plug and 964 cams. What I need to do is drive it and enjoy it. |
