Early 928īs - Great value!

Take a look at these bone stock classic 78īs.

I bet that they will serve the new owners well investment wise if they go for around 20K, which I think that they will.

I love them but equally fear their maintenance requirements......

Mac, they are no more expensive to maintain than the 911īs you know so well. The only thing that annoys me with mine is that you get back pain when working in the engine bay. The fenders are wide so you have to reach a lot. not so with the 911/912.

You just need a good example to begin with - then (probably) no major issues.

As with all old P-cars you will be uspide down in no time if you buy a neglected car.

Good to know. I do think these cars have been discovered. Quite a few have fallen into that neglected category.....

Wow that Cashmere Beige / Tan car on ebay is totally stunning. It wears the color a lot better than the 911. Very tempting. Too bad I need another car like I need a hole in the head. At least another car that remains in the garage all winter long.

That car is an auto. I would be all over the bat car IF Al's butt had been in that drivers seat!

What car? Tony's? The BAT car is a 5-speed, Silver over Pasha.

It's a stunner, already at $15K though.

Tonys car is an auto...the bat a stick.

15k is cheap cheap cheap. I know the dealer who has the beige car. I am interested in it, but I dont know yet if it has the books and so.

People will look back on these cars in 5 years and say "what was I thinking".

I'm well documented. My provenance is good. Lots of Scandanavian blood.

I know buddy

Just spoke to the seller of the cashmere car...no bookies. Everything over 15k is too much. With books 25-35 would be in the ballpark if all checked out...all depending. Drivers and collectors are not the same.....

Have a great weekend!

Those are some pretty pricy books. $10-$20K worth??? Maybe I'm in the wrong line of work - should get into producing "books" for old cars

Cheers

Two years ago people wouldn't have even looked at this car, not to mention it would have stayed on Craigs for two months. I saw the cleanest, most correct 928 I ever saw in my entire life three years ago in Hillcrest (San Diego) and he wanted $9500. It looked showroom. Everyone thought that price was a joke. At the time, it was. These are much different animals than any aircooled car. They are money eaters, hate to sit, and on top of it not many are into that styling. It is what it is I guess. I thought they were always underrated but they take a serious life commitment to keep. As an investment I am still on the fence. No one would go near a 1978 a couple years ago. Even with all the books, stamps, gas receipts, titles, window stickers, original this or that, I don't think $35K. Not now. Maybe next year.

Well lets check back on this in a couple of years. I might be wrong...but not on documentation. No books and docs is a 50% hit for collectors on most vintage Porsches.

After watching a few 928 videos I can see a scenario where they come to be seen like the 70's-80's aston V8's. When I was growing up I don't recall a tremendous amount of enthusiasm for those either and now the earlier cars have propelled them squarley into six figures.

But the more reliable test is the what would I do with my own money test, and for sure - that beautiful period color slim body spoilerless mint interior cashmere car is making me want to part ways with some of mine.

I have had a 1980 928 for 19 years now. I have had 4 911's from 1965-1986 as well. The 928 has been no more maintenance than the 911's. I think it has a bad rap as being an electrical nightmare which other than window switches i have never had any reason to believe. They are cool and fast as hell like the 911 just different. I think if I was to survive a nasty crash in any vehicle I own I would put my butt in the 928. The doors close like a bank vault and its very well built. I think that eventually everyone will get priced out of 911's and the 928 will become more interesting.

What is strange to me is that the Porsche in the movie "Risky Business" has long been retired. But the Porsche in the movie "Against all odds" is still with us. There is a reason for this.

Well Nick. Risky Business is a Tom C classic. I watch it at least once a year. But then agian I love 928's and I sort of love Tom too.

Against All Odds? Never saw it. Any good?
