An open letter to SC, 3.2 and 964 sellers

With the prices rising to new heights on SCs and 3.2s and 964s, I wanted to talk directly to those sellers. If any of these things apply to your car, please reduce the price from the 30-65k you've listed on ebay, to a price where it might actually sell.

Yes, this is tongue and cheek, but seriously folks, this is a reality check. Good cars get good money. Average cars get average money.

Your motor is clapped out.
It has 150,000 plus miles.
It is not original paint, and likely was hit at some point.
The interior looks like a goat ate it.
It's rusty
It's a cab or a targa
It's Amethyst metallic

What's wrong with 150000 plus miles on what could be a 37 year old car? 4030 miles a year seems like low miles to me.

Speaking of pricing what did you pay for the Macan? An SUV that they are planning on selling 20,000 +/year for the next five years w/o a redesign.......

The thing is, you might not understand what "average money" is nowadays. Good Carrera 3.2s for $15K ain't happening anymore.

In any case, why the fuss? You in the market? If so, you gotta pay to play, playa

Unfortunately for those that are, I don't imagine your letter will cause a stampede of sellers rushing to lower their prices...

Cheers

Buy the best you can afford. If you can't afford one right now, just save some more $$$ and try to get ahead of the pricing curve

Nothing wrong with a cab or targa, I like them both, but neither demands the same price as a coupe.

Most value guides place a cab worth about 10% more than a coupe. Not your cup of tea, but obviously someone's.

The Macan is a necessary business car, and no different to me than a Q5. It's a driver that I can put clients in. I don't care about the future value.

I'm as much in-tune with the rising market as anyone else is. I recently sold my RSA for six figures.

All I'm trying to say is that many sellers are posting inferior quality "driver" cars and expecting that they earn the dollars that a top quality car would bring.

As a classic Porsche owner for over 20 years, I will be the first one to tell you that there is nothing more important than buying the best quality you can.

I've been looking for a replacement 86-89 3.2 or 964 and am willing to pay for quality, but its amazing to me that people are posting cars that don't even come close to meeting a standard and expecting top dollar.

I agree when you are talking about newer cars. But with classic 911's coupes have always been in higher demand than cabs.

It's gold rush speculating. The market has moved so quickly ever Tom dick and Harry is trying to cash out. Asking is just asking. They won't get it from an informed buyer.

I personally think the key is sticking connected to the community. Tech weenie recently said he was brokering sales on 4 G50 coupes.
