its about the lack of a roof line for me.

Concerning cool weather driving cabs, a full tonneau is simply the coolest thing ever. 911 heaters will burn you up with the full tonneau up.

In the summer evenings, even after dark, it is still in the high 90s and extremely humid, and often the low is only in the mid 80's.

I work outdoors primarily, and the last thing I would want is to drive a car top down, and spend even more time in this shat (unless I'm getting paid, buttofcourse).
I lived most of my life in Texas, but never in DFW. In Austin, the average High in October is 82, and the average low is 61. That is glorious convertible weather -- and it lasts through late May, when the average highs creep into the high 80s.

There are a helluva lot more good convertible days in Texas than there are in Viriginia, which is plenty hot & humid in the high summer, rainy as hell in the Spring, and cold & snowy (with salted roads) in the winter.

The fear of high mileage makes me laugh. I'd rather have a well maintained, high mile car than a dried up garage queen with 30 year old mechanicals.

interesting subject & thanks for the little rabble-rousing, appreciated.

In the end curious regarding your new C4, miles, tip/manual, maintenance and price????

BTW in most of the nice places to live, Cabrios are worth a little more, as are low miles, manuals and premium on color combos.

Keep us posted Yawkee and enjoy your good looking 964.

Interesting thread, some fun back and forth.

My main contribution to the idea that some people are over-pricing very average cars is that the main culprits are the independent dealers. I think more knowledgeable air-cooled buyers, especially repeat buyers, know sources to buy directly from private sellers. However, the uninformed are more likely to buy a car from a local import lot or through AutoTrader, possibly eBay. These two sources tend to attract independent dealers.

I am not suggesting they aren't reputable, but just tend to maximize there profit. Excellent low-mileage cars have moved to the stratosphere. Well into six-figures for a clean, nice, low mileage turbo. $50-70k for a clean, low mileage, but otherwise pedestrian Carrera. Once the great cars move up, the average cars follow - 'all boats rise in a rising tide'. I agree that I have seen some crazy prices, at least crazy to me.

The other thing that seems to be happening is the definition of low mileage is going higher too, so there less of a hit to cars in the 100-150k range. I know 4-5k/year is low mileage, I am sharing what I believe I have observed.
