My dad (95) got me back into the hobby
I hope this is the correct place to post this. As many are frustrated by the cost of getting into the air cooled Porsche game, I thought it might be relevant, and give a little perspective.
I have restored, or "fixed up" many long hoods in my lifetime. I thought they were expensive as far back as 8 years ago. Was I ever wrong. I bought a Colorado orange 73 tii to restore because I thought the 72/73 911s that I preferred were overpriced. This was years ago also. I had fun learning about the tii, but was frustrated by the learning curve of restoring a new brand. Porsche cars I already knew well. I sold the tii, and complained about the cost of my beloved 72/73 911s. My father, an MIT educated chemical engineer born in 1919, asked me one day what 911 was I currently working on. I told him that I was done with old Porsches, giving him my bitter response that they were out of reach. His response to me was, "what a waste of knowledge." So within a short time I went out and found a one owner 74. It was a mess, but complete. Ran poorly, little rust. Real cheap. I have had as much fun restoring this car as any I have ever done before. Thanks to my dad, for getting me back into the game. For those out there looking for a fun car, keep looking. They are out there. |

Nice. Good for you and what a great father to encourage you like that.
I have by far more regrets about not doing/buying things than things I did or brought. |

Great story, but we need pictures! Of the car, not your dad (although I'm sure he is a fine gentleman).

"What, what, you want me to waste all this knowledge?" Great story. Put up some photos. The '74 is the rookie of the impacts. |

Ive got to catch my dad when he's "looking good" for his debut photo on the web. He would insist. Thanks for the views and responses.

My favorite car I've ever restored. I helped a good friend restore this to be the car he has always wanted. I think I took extra care with this one, because it was done for a friend. Sometimes when I restore my own stuff, I may cut a corner or two (haha). This car was purchased in 2007 or early 2008. Aga Blau. Engine out (obviously)
