Factory 914-6 Daily Driver current value ?

I have owned my Six for 45 years. Obviously not a Six flipper. The Six is a non-matching, side shifter, with a recent rebuilt strong running 2.0 and a 1975 front clip. Were is the original engine (#6404286)?
To get the big bucks ($80,000 +) I would have to get the Canary Yellow repainted, reupholstered, new rubber, etc. What is the value now? What would the value be after a nominal restoration? Any helpful/non-hostile comments will be greatly appreciated.

probably 30-40k as it stands without pictures and limited description. The non-original engine hurts a bit. Is there any chance the original engine could be found?

Canary yellow from factory? That will help value quite a bit.

Canary Yellow is the factory/current color. Why is Canary Yellow of value? Thanx Biosurfer for your comment. It is closer to windsurf in Tahoe.

I don't know the exact build numbers but I'm sure Canary yellow is one of the more rare colors, plus it's a unique color which is what buyers of old Porsche's seem to value.

Also, everyone knows yellow=faster!

Well, this is the real killer

Why was it clipped, crashed, rust?? Were the 6 numbers also swapped, was the work photo documented??
To get your Six to the higher value, you would need to convert the sideshift back to the correct tail shift (you still have the parts) I had to do this to mine, is the 2.0 a 911 or a 914-6 engine with the correct carbs??

To have the pain & bodywork done properly, can be very $$$$ and since the car has been clipped, even if you find the correct engine, still won't bring near the $$$ as a non-clipped car. Also, does the title reflect the clip job( rebuilt)?

I would say that the '75 clip is going to be a major hit on price (no pun intended). It's 1/3 of the cars sheet metal. Also, on what's been stated, how was the VIN transfer done to the clip?

If you have photos of the work, knew who did the work, etc it will help your case.

914-6s are very rare and very desirable and I believe it would be the market that would tell you what the going price would be with a car with such a story. Some wouldn't care but obviously collectors would. I am interested to hear what other people say, but Racerbvd is an expert so I would probably place all the chips on him.

And looking to what you said, it seems you are or are close to being the original owner. So you must know the story, since 45 years puts you back to 1970, and that's probably how old the car is.

I am no expert, but do buy way too many cars.
As a potential buyer, I would pay more for an original -4 than a chopped up non matching original -6.
Probably somewhere around an equal condition non chopped up -6 conversion.

At the end of the day though, it's still a freakin' sweet car and to someone who doesn't mind, it's sweet. How many 914-6s were crashed? A lot. But unfortunately it will never bring the money a non-crashed car brings. At least not now.
