I see that ...it was not my first choice when I found the one I have had for 22 years, prior to it I had a Rosewood Targa. Red is iconic for sure though.

If you want a Guards Red car, you have a lot to pick from, and that makes it more of a buyer's market.

There is also a caveat emptor factor given how many sloppy red resprays are out in the marketplace.
It was so common to repaint a 911 red to sell it even had a name "resellred"

Yep. Times have changed. It used to be the gottahaveit color. Right now there's an active thread in 911 Tech with a guy who has a blue SC repainted GR who is asking about how much it dings his car. Was a time it didn't ding his car.

Resale Red goes back way before the 911.

You are right, I do remember that term was used by a lot of people .
But Like Matt and others have said, red was THE color and many people painted their cars and bought their car red.
Now the pendulum has swung where red is still liked, but now somewhat common, and people are seeking out the unusual and funky colors to go with their Unusual and funky old Porsche. Like Viper green, Signal orange, Golf blue, etc.
Now people want those colors that used to look so dated and weird and are repainting their red, black, white cars back to the original colors and will pay a premium for cars with the old funky colors.
I want to paint my black 930 back to the original 'Metallic Oak Tree Green' and I had some old hippies add some color to my white 68S
I have no hate for red at all, I am just looking for a little more spice than black, white or red
and it seems others are to.Maybe not old hippies painting on the side of their cars

Westy, I guess I am a felon as it is acrylic paint used to paint the doors of trucks.
I had to cut out the rockers and do a lot of rust repair and repair of poor former repairs in the rockers but the rest of the cars paint was OK. I can in no way afford to paint it to the Early S crowds expectations and really do not want a car painted so nice I will not drive it. so this was my out. It is a 60's car with a 60's theme paint by a still cute 60's chick. It also nips in the bud the condescending 'what is correct crowd'
This car is about fun.

I always though Janis did a nice paint job on her porker, kinda sticks in the mind that one, pic below. Good song too!

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends.
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a color TV ?
Dialing For Dollars is trying to find me.
I wait for delivery each day until three,
So oh Lord, won't you buy me a color TV ?

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a night on the town ?
I'm counting on you, Lord, please don't let me down.
Prove that you love me and buy the next round,
Oh Lord, won't you buy me a night on the town ?

Everybody!
Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends,
Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?

That's it!

There you go, ficke. Historical precedent -- you are totally covered. In fact, Janis makes your car looked half-assed!

Now you just need to coin a name for the new category. It isn't an "outlaw".

Maybe a Timothy Leary inspired "dropout"?

BTW -- Joplin's car is now an exhibit at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame:

Cool, I am on parole
Besides the Joplin car there was Lennon's Rolls and all those crazy 917 race car paint jobs of the 60's.
Paint does comes off easily and I got old Mexican blankets on the rotten leather seats, I have gone full circle back to my past.
But the bottom line is it is all about fun and our entertainment.
Man, I love these cars!
Acid dipped, not dropped.
