Got my 996tt up on the lift today. Shot a photo just for Christian.
Let's see...964 part number...oil return tube bosses...scavenge side oil return fitting and pipe...nope, no way that's a 911. Build quality - jeez, this POS had a huge puddle under it before I could even get it up in the air. Oh wait, that was just all the water from the prodigious air conditioning system. Yeah, no leaks on this 15 year old non-911. LOL. ![]()

List now, fix later. Your legal obligation to make sure it can pass smog doesn't leave CA. What if you sell it out of state? Plus in this market many wont care. I would buy a car that doesn't pass smog and fix it myself.

Yup,,,Thought about that Matt. Probably 99+ % that the car will leave Cali. Good news is leakdown test was less than 5% on all six, and compression was excellent. It's only low RPM. Initially these cars we're allowed 2.5 hydrocarbon, but CA has seen fit to reduce it to 1.0. Pretty fair, huh?

Yep, there's a very good reason I had been '74 shopping. Colorado has copied CA's emmision laws in most every way, including tailpipe standards.

Beyond this, smog is a bit of a red herring these days as many states permit special purpose registrations for old cars that do not require testing. Here in OR the option is available once the car is 25 years old. Doug |

Sorry to hear that but as Matt says, it will almost certainly leave the state. As long as you are confident in the health of the engine, I'd get it up. You'll certainly enjoy the premium of a CA car in terms of rust. I've found a ton of pictures really helps, especially of ones showing any defects, big and small. People appreciate it and no one likes surprises. Good luck!

I'm takin the advice. Got plans today, but then I'm gonna compile all the receipts, take a few more flicks, get a shine on it, and make the list of everything that's been done.

What is the opinion on the 997.1 & 997.2 Turbos? It appears an 07 is now a $60,000 car, an 08 Cab for $80,000.....

I sold my '79 930 and "replaced" it with the 997tt cab. No regrets, I was ready for something different. I wouldn't consider it a substitute for the 930, its apples and oranges. The level of refinement is very high on the 997, so there is less "drama" than the aircooled turbo. They both devour asphalt.

I've seen 997.1 turbos in the 50k range. I want to see them hit in the 40's.
So does anyone think the 996 will rise above the 997 for a short period? |

Ha. 'Another car' in the context of a Porsche forum does not mean Japanese sport compact, but to each his own. I've ridden in a tweaked STI. Maybe not the best example, but yawn. I know it wasn't too hard to get another 30+ HP in my 951, but the turbo 911s give you serious bang for the tuning/tweaking buck.

Caveat.......I tend to exaggerate sometime!
