Valuation questions: early drivetrains
Hello,
I currently have a 2.2 w/ weber 40 carbs out of a '71 911, mated to a type 911 4-speed in my car. My car happens to be a '74, and has 930 bodywork, so not much original about it. I plan to swap out the motor for a larger one, and get a 915 w/ LSD, and I'm on the fence about what to do with the old motor and transmission. With the prices of long hood 911's being so high, is it to the point where I could trade it on a 3.2, 3.3 or 3.6 and offset the cost quite a bit, or am I better off leaving it on the shelf in my garage and keeping it for the day when I decide to do something stupid like turn up the boost on a new motor? Mileage is unknown, but it's a strong runner and the crabs are well tuned.

You could trade it in on a larger engine.
The value of the 2.2 is dependent on the engine number stamping and condition. Since you indicated it came out 72, it would have been correct with a 2.4 rather than 2.2. Unless it was a typo. 2.2 with 911 trans is proper for a 70/71 car. it's probably worth doing a bit of research. The engine would have greater value to the owner of the chassis it came out of. The 911 4-speed is pretty rare, but not particularly valuable.

Post the engine number. Like techweenie says, a lot of folks are looking for their original motors. I'm one of them. Good luck with your decision!

If it were me I would sell it to help fund another engine.

any ballpark on price? 3.6's and 3.2's seem to be demanding some pretty hefty price tags (running 3.3's are out of this world), have the long hood values raised motor prices for pre-1973 motors?

Quote:
Depending on measurements, the long block could be worth $2500-3500. The carbs/intakes/linkage/air cleaner, $22-2800

good to know. I already have a carrera intake, injectors, fuel rail, haltech ECU, 930 exhaust, turbo, and intercooler, so really just need a larger displacement long block and transmission
