912-6??
I bought a 912 with an engine that "could be original since it is a '69 912 engine".
Well, its not! It is an unstamped case, but it is a type 616/40, which is a 69 engine. So since its not original, should I put in a -6 and put the big bore -4 in a 356? Ironically the 356 also has an unstamped case. Or should I just be happy with both well running engines? Will the 912-6 be worth the trouble of converting? Not power wise but value wise. The 4 has plenty of power for me.

I think the swap would be fun and for your enjoyment. Value would be hurt IMO.

If the 4 has plenty of power for you than the only thing you gain is extra weight behind the rear axle. The car is perfect as is. Great balance and I'm sure a hoot to drive! No need to do the swap unless you are itching for a project, but I personally don't think it is worth the trouble.

Cost of the swap will not be covered in the resale value.

Thanks guys.
This is strictly for resale value. Bought this car then found a 356. Wanted to keep both for a bit to decide which I liked better. 912 is much more car but there is just something about the 356. So the 912 got voted off the island. Several offers below what I bought her for, so either wait until market improves or try to increase value by installing a -6. I don't mind waiting, but wouldn't mind cashing out sooner either. So what to do?

A converted 912 will not be worth as much as a true 911, and the value increase over the 912 price (if any) probably won't be enough to cover the cost of the conversion. Definitely better to sell as is.

Unless you already own a good running 911 engine AND can do the install yourself, you will lose way more money swapping the car than selling as is. Even if you install yourself what is your time worth?
Sometimes we lose a little money on a car just to get out of it. But if you've only had it advertised for a bit keep trying. Be honest with people. Tell buyers what you paid for it and why you are selling. Some guys will try to take advantage of your situation. Others will understand, appreciate the openness, and that's the buyer for you.
