Need constructive advice please on selling my car!

So I thought I was giving a great deal on my car.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/883062-1975-porsche-911s-68k-miles.html

But it is not 'gone'. I thought someone would snap it up. Can I get some constructive advice please? I can't change much to the car, it runs and drives well. Very snappy and responsive.

Or am I being impatient?? (I hate selling online btw, but I had great success selling my '79 in very quick and tidy fashion).

Hi - I clicked on your ad a few times (as a tire kicker and someone who always knows someone looking for a 911) and thought I'd say the pictures could be better and you should state clearly if the color is original. I haven't seen that color and something about it, maybe the pics, does look 'dealer tarted up' not original. Can you drive it somewhere nicer and or ask a friend handy with a camera for some help? Maybe take better interior and engine pics too, something about them feels a bit dusty and nasty.

Maybe clarify what "interior refreshed" means? If I were being pessimistic I would worry that meant reupholstered by a non Porsche shop in generic cloth.

All of that was meant to be constructive please don't read anything into my tone.

On the price - I'd say its on the cusp of fair. There are some very nice looking very well documented, desirable color combo 911 SCs priced lower than yours, and I'm not sure that's the right order. I'd guess that $25k would be a snappy sale, $27k would lead to more bites.

good luck!

A 75 S did not have SC flares. And Amethyst Metallic, I believe, is a later color. The market is split between people liking big tails and those who do not. US buyers are often leery about what it takes to get a Canada car into the US.

All of these things make the car a hard sell on an enthusiast forum. I believe you would have better luck listing on generic cars-for-sale sites plus Craigslist or kijiji.

My Top 10 on why you aren't getting the money:

1) It's a '75. I have a '75. I like '75s, but so many people for the last 38 years, 2 months, 5 days, and 16 hours never, ever liked and even hated '75s and they were considered one of the worst 911s you could buy. Now they are gaining respect but it's been a long time coming.

2) It's flared and it's a Targa. I don't mind either, as mine is the same. But it's not original back there. And it's not a clean job to put back slim.

3) The word 'refreshed' should be banned from this forum.

4) The spoiler is cheese ball. I don't understand what you mean by another spoiler. It didn't come with a spoiler, doesn't need a spoiler, and it shouldn't have a spoiler.

5) The pics are not good.

6) It's not a '79 SC like your last one.

7) Replace the Fram oil filter with a OEM one.

8) Do some real photos of the interior. If it's as clean as you say it is, take another 20 minutes and go a re-shoot it.

9) It looks a little glitzy - as in Vegas kitsch with the paint. Maybe the lighting in your photos make it look like a candy apple. The color may not be to everyone's taste.

10) Maybe better photos than in some alley with a Hummer and old cars in the background - and less words.

....And look at the '76 S Targa that's being sold now for around the price of yours that has a 3.0 in it. So that's galvanized and has a 3.0.

How about this?

It's a 75, not an SC.
It's a 2.7 not a 3.0
It's not original.
It's too expensive.

Great deal would be $24K, not $29K.

Your price is simply too high for this car.

I have seen cars like this sit for a while even at sub $20K prices.
If you want a quick sale, try $15K.

And to add to the previous comments, my guess is you don't have the paperwork history behind it.

And from your updated ad, add fake Fuchs and low rent cheap fabric interior.

I'm going to go with color s the biggest factor. Targa, flares, and tail come next. And I bet a lot of people are wondering why such a low mileage car needed so much "refreshing"

If you listed it 2 months earlier I might try to buy it.

15 low to 20...for many of the obvious reasons above. Good luck. Tim

$15k is too cheap. When is the last time you guys saw a running driving car that doesn't need any immediate work with that kind of mileage for under $20k? The average buyer won't pick up on the flares or the period incorrect tail.

I agree with pretty much everything else though. The only thing that this car has going for it is the mileage, but everything else is like a dark shadow. $30k is way too much, and $15k is way too cheap. I'm guessing the car would sell within a couple weeks in the low $20's........like $22,500 or less. Too many options out there for $30k that blow this car out of the water.

Open air cars get beat up in the marketplace.....I know because I'm trying to sell my 964 cabriolet. It's a great car and a hoot to drive, but very small market........especially this time of year.

Best of luck with the sale.

$15k is a joke. BHCC has rusty middies for $17-22k. I think $25k is the right price. Canada hurts you too. An American is unlikely to buy this car. You might have to wait for the snow to melt to sell it up there unless you give a $2-3k discount off the $25k ask. Otherwise just be patient.

Mostly agree with Matt. I would put flares worst, then color, Canada, Winter is coming, Tail, Targa, in that order. You need someone pretty desperate for a Porsche to pay shipping on that car at this time of the year.

$15K is the price to sell it immediately before the dark Canadian winter sets in

I'm a buyer at $15k and so are a lot of other guys on this board............. I don't think he was asking for the price which would induce 200 pms in his inbox. $20k would get the job done also.

Don't know last911's intent but his expectations were for an instant sale at $29K from the OP when it should be $15k IMO.

Maybe try the the local guys with all the WTB ads although I don't know if they are willing to spend the dough. I would take it south of the border if you can. Did you miss the $5k '75 on Kijiji this weekend?
