more concerned with impact on Ducati. More relevant. I don't ride anymore, but I do like where they've taken the product line. Could slow things down a bit...

Problem will be who are the new buyers ?

They pissed on the "Greens" , who was the target market ,

Now they need to find a new target.......

Maybe they need to sell Skoda in the USA , no one here will know its owned by VW

They will still sell millions of cars , but it will take years until they can take on Toyota again.

VW will sell it's cars just fine in America. Just let a little time go by. The VW cheat did not kill anyone.

Yep, and the fact that they pissed of Greens may encourage others to buy.
Most people don't buy them based on environmental reason, they buy them for the mileage & reliability.

True that. I'd give them a medal for pissing off greens, and reds.

Well, that would be a good thing for them because before this not enough "others" were buying - and VW was doubling down on the high MPG of the TDI as their big playing card. This headline seemed to be just one of many recent stories - until I looked at the date!!

I think VW only did what every other manufacturer has done since emissions testing began. They programmed their cars to pass the test. I really dont find it much different from a manufacture who programms there car to stay in closed loop for X amount of time at X throttle because that is how long a acceleration cycle was in the emissions test. I hope most people realize that most cars when floored, go to open loop and polute more because this senario is outside of the test area for emmisions. Cars only run their cleanest when in the Emissions test cycle window. VW just took this to the next level because modern cars have more sensors and they could. By using the fact that the steering was not being turned as the car was driven let them know that the car was being tested (or in rural Kansas) and it ran cleaner. They read the rules and figured out how to meet the requirement. Remember when tested in the way prescribed by the EPA the car will run clean and pass the emissions test. By the way this type of thinking is what made Porsche such a force in racing. The Dauer 962's and 935's are classic examples of creative interpretation. VW may not have met the intent of the law but they met the requirement as prescribed. I think VW will come out of this just fine.

Not going to affect any air cooled cars as they were built when the company was still owned by the Porsche family not Volkswagen North America.

Problem now affects 3.0 diesel Audi and Porsche. In Porsche's case, it's SUVs, and I'm guessing Panameras. I don't see any effect on the 2-door Porsches - old or new.

A couple of yrs ago I bought my daughter a 2012 GTI 2.0 turbo, premium fuel required. Got a letter in the mail today from VW of America. Starts of with " as part of Volkswagon's ongoing commitment to the environment". Bottom line it says if I don't take it to a dealer for a reprogram of the vehicles ECU software, the registration will be suspended by the state of California. Wow...
