I just purchased (last month) a 78 SC white on black around 70k miles. It is very similar to your car. In the past 6k miles, the previous owner rebuilt engine and transmission with all of the upgrades mentioned, SSI, Dansk, 964 Cams. I paid $30k for the car but I feel like I got a great deal. I have been watching these cars for quite a while and feel that people are usually getting 35-40k as previously mentioned. I see a lot of dealers asking 45-50 but I do not see those cars moving very fast.

Correct - the tail has been removed and sold to a guy in Seattle. I need to do some top notch photography of the car without the tail.

1982 911SC - Grand Prix White - Black Interior - Sunroof
Less than 90,000 original miles - I am the 4th owner of this car and I have had it for almost 14 years now. Car originally from North Carolina. I have contacted all previous owners. Two binders of receipts going back to 1986 I think.

This car was on the local PCA judged concours circuit and placed first in class for 5 years in a row - I have retired myself and the car from the judged events for the last 5 or 6 years now. Exact dates available.

All the upgrades have been done - clutch, pop-off, tensioners, head studs, new timing chains, ramps etc. All at Porsche-centric repair shops. Car is lowered from stock height.

The original owner added a tail to this car damaging the engine lid in process. I have replaced the tail with another lid, painted to match the rest of the car. Another minor shopping cart incident on the right rear wheel arch spurred another repair - Other than those two items, I would estimate this cars paint to be 90%+ original. Michelin tires and Fuchs wheels are in great shape. Original factory wheel locks - two sets of keys and H4 headlight upgrade.

Interior is black leather seats with the normal wear that would be found in a car this age - They really look good. Dash is perfect and free of ANY CRACKS. Black headliner, carpets in great shape. Seatbelt re-tractors could use some love. Does not have the original radio but a very nice Alpine AM/FM cassette, Alpine 6-disc changer, 200 Watt Amp, and ADS speakers x 4.

Tool kit, compressor, jack, jack pad, spare, spare blocker, owners manual, owners manual cover, even the Kleen Hands plastic gloves are here. Car cover, sheep skin seat covers, two piece bra and flag mirror bras. - Box of parts included.

This car really does not need much. I plan on another fluid change and check up before it leaves my care.

Information presented to the best of my memory here at the office. Let me know if there is some other area I need to detail out. Some photos below - if it works.

Thanks for looking and let me know what you think!
Stamps in the booklet? Without that and with the mods it is really only worth the parts if you can get anyone to break it up

It's just Christian's personal obsession with books and papers. He's referring to the dealer stamps in the service book indicating maintenance performed. Personally, I would prefer to judge a car based on its current condition and while books are nice to have, I don't lose any sleep over them.

Cheers

Ignore him. He's an OCD European who is just pulling your leg. He can't afford your car.

Dealers are a dice roll. Many in the US would rather not have any stamps. You buy the previous owner just as much as the car.

I actually disagree with the Spring time ad placement. I watched the market very closely this year and the (asking) prices seemed to peak very late Spring and then Summer. This car will sell quickly.

At least $35K. I'd list it at $39.5 and bet it sells close to that.
I agree. Sounds from the condition its in really nice shape. I would have Jumped at 35k. I would list 39 and take 38K? I bought the Smurf, but overpaid a little for the Arrow interior.

1911guy, You don't mention if the car has a/c. If so, has it been converted to R134a and does it function? How about exhaust system? Does it have original heat exchangers and cat, or has the cat been deleted and SSI's?

I never used the AC in this car.
It does have R134a but is in need of a charge - will address at final service prior to sale.

Exhaust system in all original. Will need to confirm CAT question.

Thanks

If you've been smogging it here in Colorado it will have a cat. We are tested to CA emissions standards, both visually and tail pipe. Local CARE location tried to fail me because tech didn't know how to identify the cat. Had to get a supervisor to come sign off on it. And it would not pass without it. These days CIS cars with a cat and a poor tune fail. With no cat? Not happening.

How embarrassing. Don't the guys doing the testing have any mechanical knowledge?

Very little. Before we adopted CA standards it was actually in our favor because a CIS car with cat bypass looked like it had a cat, especially on a car with an O2 sensor. You used to be able to get through without a cat.

To most 911 folks who know anything, this phrase reads as "A/C installed, but inop". That translates into a few hundred to over $2000 in repair, depending on the final location of the car and the intended use. Depending on the buyer, that can be a pretty big deal, or it can mean an opportunity for overall mass reduction.

I would give you this piece of advice: don't charge it with new R134a. Just list the car as "A/C installed with R134a conversion, system currently inoperative." and leave it at that.
