What do you think the value of this '74?
So, I have this car just sitting in the garage. I bought it with a blown motor. Since this is smog-exempt, I have torn down the engine and had the cams redone to be hotter cams. I have the rebuilt kit (boxes) from Pelican still in boxes. I have yet to buy the carburetors.
If I were to abandon this project, what is your 'very rough' valuation? It does have a few rust under the driver door. Interior looks clean. No upholstery rips. Thanks. ![]() ![]() |

What is the vin? Is it a 911 Carrera or 911S? We need an interior shot to see what else is not stock (I don't believe those are 74 side mirrors).

Someone once tried to make it look like a later car, blacking out the bright trim. Poor paint match on the aftermarket duck. As mreid pointed out, the mirrors are wrong.
...and the engine is out and apart and incomplete. Having said that, the market is strong and as it sits (assuming matching case) it's probably worth $18K or so if a 91141XXXXX and $30K or so if 91144XXXXX. Of course, if it were 91146XXXX, I'd be right over!

So, I had to google where to find the Vin.
It's 91143xxxxx. Where would the 43's run price-wise? Thanks |

That's a 911S with a sunroof, fair interior, some rust, and a non-running questionable engine. I'd say $15k if it has a non-cracked dash.

I'm still thinking around $18K if the engine's a match and the flares are steel. Subtract $2K if they are fiberglass. What are the first 3 numbers of the engine stamping (side of alternator mount).

9301011334R is what is stamped on the split engine case. Flares are all steel.

Non matching engine in pieces(no CIS) and body mods and you all think $15-$18k. Wow this market is out of control. Seems like a $10k car at best.

How many smog exempt 911's are out there?
![]() And how many people are actually into CIS when carbs may actually be better for this setup? |

California is a good place to buy used Porsches but not to sell them. What is needed parts wise to put it together? Can you post a picture of the interiour? So far 15k looks fair. |

To be exact, i bought this to convert it to a turbo bodied 911. Though the body is almost rust free, i was going to get it painted with the same color scheme.
I have acquired a 997 C4S thereafter and i now plan on just having a hotter cam 3.0. From what i understand, this engine has bigger ports than the 80's 3.0. The interior actually looks better than my '83SC Cab when i bought it. The tranny is prior to the 915 and i may also try to acquire a 915. I am unsure yet if there would be a plus buying a 915. Again, except for the carbs, i have all the new parts to assemble it back together. I just need to find time. I could post interior pics soon. I have stuff inside the car. ![]() Oh, the sale was a dry humor joke. Though, I do appreciate the private messages regarding possible sale and interest ![]() Last edited by cab83_750; 12-28-2014 at 05:32 PM.. |

Well, I didn't want to say just how lucky a $23K sale would have been, in case the buyer was here.
The ports are bigger on the 78-79, but compression is lower. You can build a nice engine if you have some money to throw at it. Original trans for the chassis would have been the highly desirable mag case 7:31 915 with internal mainshaft seal. Any 'earlier' trans is a mismatch. Last time I bought carbs for an engine with no induction, it came to about $2700 for carbs, installation and tuning. If you can do a bunch of the work yourself, you can save a few hundred. A decent 915 is going to run $2500 - in fact, I just sold one for that amount a few weeks ago. Not clear on your motives here: are you looking for offers or planning a build?

I already have 5 vehicles and this is the only project I have left. Someone died (not friend of mine) and they want me to buy a 2008 BMW 750Li for $10,000.00.
![]() Trying to see if I should unload the project car if I end up getting the Bimmer. And if I unload the '74, I wanted to know what the market is. So I guess I am trying to be proactive regarding finances, garage space, etc. I should know about the Bimmer by end of this week. If I get the very low mileage Bimmer for $10k, this car goes. |
