I know you don't want a targa, but just in case, this one is a beautiful color and probably will go in the mid to high 20s

Wait, I thought you were the one looking for an SC Targa?

Per our conversation in the car, here is the quote from the Peter Morgan Ultimate Buyers' Guide book about the changes Porsche made to the 915 in the later years: "In 1985 and 1986 there were successive reductions in gear lever travel of 10%, to reduce the 915 gearbox's notoriously vague action (compared to other contemporary gearboxes)." So I don't know how those changes, which he seems to suggest were universal, relate to the separate short shift option that was available.

[snip]
Owen, I enjoyed the drive and our chat.

If you acquire the SC in Denver, I'll road trip back to SF in it with you, if you want a co-pilot. Too bad the RS inspired touches are red instead of blue. I could live with blue for a while. As it is, I would need to drop the red wheels off to Harvey Wiedman on the drive back to SF from Denver.

Interesting note on 915 shift throw reductions. I'm surprised nobody has chimed in on what the definitive changes were. It may be a moot point however given the thriving cottage industry that has grown to remedy the 915's shortcomings.

Rich Gas, you're in SF too? I'd like to try your smooth shifting 915 some day if you're up for it. I've been taking my '88 to Bodega Bay's Spud Point Crab Company for Sunday "brunch" as of late. Glorious clam chowder and crab cakes wrapped in an equally glorious drive up & down Highway 1. Perhaps a group drive after Owen gets a car.

I know a few folks who've found cars on Samba. A lot of dealers post up cars there (I've checked a few, stay away from Sherman Oaks) but there are plenty of private sellers with good deals.

Thanks, added that to my list.

Man, so many targas and cabriolets for sale in my target years, everywhere I look. But no coupes. Well, none that don't scare me off because of their condition or their price. I've seen some nice low miles examples, but they're asking 50k and up.

What's the car in Denver? While I might not be able to go lay eyes on it I might already know it.

This: 1982 Porsche 911SC Coupe | Bring a Trailer

Beautiful, but for the moment I'm holding out for a 3.2.

Ah. That car was for sale here last year. I have seen it at car shows. Its a nice car even though Pelicans were kind of harsh on it.

Wow, that's a gorgeous SC. I think $33K for that car is a bargain.

Hey famaroso, that sounds fun. That is the first invite I have gotten on this forum, ever. I really appreciate that, and will make every effort to make the ride if planned.

Thank you

PS: I've never actually met a single person here. I have spent $4k-6k here at pelican, and use the excellent
Tech and diy resources to work on my car. I imagine what people are like by how they respond to this environment.

Hey autojack....we could hook up and I'll let you drive a properly set up stock 84 with a buttery smooth 915... My car is one of the good ones that corners on rails, screams to redline, and cruises steady and rock solid at 80 mph all day long. It smells like leather and oil, looks at you like it loves you, and rewards the practiced hand with supercar performance. Just ask.

Have you looked at the triple black 87 in Costa Mesa?

Yow, that looks good. Contacted him. It must have posted shortly after the daily email of updates to that forum was sent, because it wasn't in there.

I'm already in the process of checking out an '88, I was going to try and arrange PPI today. But it's asking $7500 more, has 120k miles, and it's black with black interior (I'd prefer the tan int.). But overall it sounds great, well cared for, longtime Porsche enthusiast owner, etc.

Maybe I'll get lucky with this one.

Call me stupid, but that thing has been for sale since *August,* on Pelican, Rennlist, Craigslist from here to New York, and a few other places. It's like the Flying Dutchman of 911s, and it just smells to me.
