Altruistic businesses....... Very interesting subject matter..... Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream, Paul Newman's Salad Dressings....

IMO, Wayne has created a welcoming forum for the passionate enthusiast. I believe it could be used as a best practice business model.

Talk about smokin' crack.
When you are building your dream car, using all the best parts, it isn't hard, may take time. I won't say how much is in my "Tribute", because it is what I wanted, not to resell, but a twin plug 3.0 with 46 Webers doesn't come cheap, neither does 930 brakes & 8&9X15 Fuchs, factory GT flares also aren't cheap nor is the correct Recaro race seat & Cibie hood mount fog lights. This stuff all adds up.

And the cost of the custom metal work isn't cheap either.
I know I couldn't get near what I have invested, but that isn't why I built it either, my dream car

Mmmm. Someday I will build a 914-6 like that. I have the chassis. I have most of the parts. I just haven't found the time or justification for the cost of the metal and paint.

Point well made and taken.
This is why you buy them after they've been done.
Pennies on the dollar, so to speak.
I don't think the car in question is worth $100K to anyone, nor will anyone even think about ponying up that much.

There is no question about that, but my car also has sentimental meaning to me, and is a tribute for a close friend & mentor who has passed.

The sad part about this post taking on an ugly turn is that the person doing the attacking has no idea that I was simply wondering what a nice 914-6 conversions are worth. That is all! I guess you can't sell Porsches and be part of the forum. The "rule of the mob" says so..

Regardless..

I saw a great looking 914-6 conversion at Auto Atlanta for an astonishing price, and I just wanted to gain some understanding about its true value. And just because I sell air cooled Porsches for living does not mean that I am not an enthusiast! Get that in your head! Once and for all! There are plenty of posts where I've involved myself that had nothing to do with business. And when I actually did give back to the Pelican community by pointing out some serious bs from other selling parties, I got a big slap in my face! So I guess with "some" people you can't win! Period

Regardless, the sun is out in Georgia and I wish a great day to you all

Dick- did you buy the Automobile Atlanta car or is the one on your website for $70K a different one?

The one on my web is a real 914-6 and is not in any way connected to the conversion that is for sale at Auto Atlanta. I just admired the build and was wondering what these hybrids go for..

Keep us updated on your build as I personally have a fondness for the 904 & have always dreamed of owning one. Once done, if done right, it will put an irreversible smile on ones face. I've had the pleasure of driving an original on a few occasions as a good mate of mine owns one & that was it, smitten ever since.

Best of luck getting her sorted !

I guess you stopped wondering and did make it business?

A buddy just sold his, a GT clone, built 3.6, 915 conversion, big ass Porsche breaks, light weight, for $39K, now way in HELL could that car be built anywhere close to that.
Wonder if he had turned it into "Tribute" of a well known racecar if he could have gotten $100K for it.

And yes, had my concours 914-6 sold, there is a good chance I would have bought this and done just that (other than selling)
