What's it worth..1983 SC?

1983 SC non-sunroof coupe metallic brown over black, black Fuchs. 56,000 miles No rust except for a small dime size near the driver's front wheel well. Pan, trunk, battery box, rockers, all solid. All original paint--no accidents, original motor/tranny. Last run in 2004. Motor spins freely-- and there were no issues, it was just parked and sat for the last 12 years in a garage--unfortunately the garage was damp--seats, dash, wheel, shift boot, etc. covered in white mold. It was never prepped prior to storage--everything will need gone through--belts, hoses, brakes, fuel lines, tank, seals, etc. etc. all the oil has leaked onto the floor. Pics are below. Any ballpark values appreciated.

This is an unusual car. It's rare that a low mileage 911 that seems to be well cared for is simply thrown into a garage and forgotten about for 12 years. Usually that happens to the beaters only.

Needs engine reseal and mold issues addressed; these are the expensive items. Not sure if the interior is salvageable? The rust is odd on a low mileage car. Really need to double check for more under it.

Great color.

With no mold and running, could be an upper $40k car. The mold is scary. As it sits now assuming original paint is still in good condition, I'd say $20k or so.

Rust is unusual on an SC. Interior looks far gone. I think $20k is optimistic. I'd say high teens assuming there is zero rust beyond that one spot.

I would be weary breathing that in. At least wear a mask.

They have a device that you place in the car that kills (neutralizes?) the mold. You leave it in the car for several days after doing a surface clean. Im not sure if it will work for that extensive of an invasion, but it's worth researching.....

I'd pay $20K for that car all day long.

Bleck. That car is going to be so expensive to fix. I wouldn't spend more than $12-15k.

Don't be so sure. I've seen rust in SC, Carrera, and 964. Some where you expect, some hidden. Some 'garage queens' and daily drivers. They all rust.

Only car I've 'track prepped' and not found rust was a 99 Boxster.

What's the fuse box and wiring look like? Based upon how disgusting the inside of the car looks, one can only imagine what the electrical contacts, heater hoses, a/c hoses and ventilation system looks like? Then there is the fuel tank, fuel lines and fuel injection system that would have old fuel like varnish stuck to them, rusty brake discs, and the list goes on... Anybody thinking they could buy this cheap and spend a few grand and a week getting it cleaned up is in for an unpleasant surprise.

Yep. Exactly my point. Can you imagine the corrosion on anything and everything electrical? There are going to be electrical gremlins for months on a car like this.

That car is not far gone at all.... don't let a little mold scare you.....

Granted standard procedures for starting a car that has been sitting for an extended period of time.
Interior needs full removal and refurbishing this might include partial replacement.
I would budget $10,000 for restart and mechanical (tires, brakes, tune -up) and electrical replacements (battery, fuses). Budget another $5,000 to $10,000 for interior.

This would place the cars value in the high teens to low twenties.

It's just mold, not the plague.

With SC's going for what they are, I think this car might be a bargain at $15K.

My old SC spent its whole life in Socal and Arizona and it had a few rust spots.

996s and 997s rust too.

Bleach mixed with water. Add rag and wipe. Repeat. Clean that interior up and see what you have.

Wiping bleach on leather will damage the leather. Not a great idea...

If the door cards are still intact as well as the rest of the cardboard backing that interior can be brought back to good shape.

This is what you want. I believe it will save that interior.

Is that the right link? Acrysol appears to be a paint additive.

you shouldn't simply clean the mold you see, it is all over that car- every bit of that interior needs to be replaced- there is mold in the seats as well as on top- not cheap.
the engine and fuel system will need some work
$15-20K ball park, I would start it at $25000 though

This. Maybe a scumbag flipper would surface clean this car and resell it. But if you want this for your own car? Rip it all out. Budget for all the carpets, newly rebuilt (with foam that doesn't have mold in it) seats; including the rear, door cards, parcel shelf, dash complete from knee pads to top.

We are talking about our health here. Am I a "hippy"? Damn right. Mold can kill you. You do not want that sort of infection in your lungs. I had one many years ago in a rental unit that had a leaky roof and poor maintenance. My valuation of this car assumes that it is remedied correctly. Surface removal is a poor solution since the firtst time the air vents get opened there will be spores blowing right in your face( or your buyer's face). And you can't just blow that out. You need to strip it all the way down and clean or replace every single link in the system.
