1970 RSR tribute on BAT pulled

Anyone else watch this train wreck Friday?

For those that did not. Car has a bogus vin and was pulled from the auction. I would buy the car without issue if it already has a CA title. But some of the comments soured the deal.

I think SKM did the community a service..... Too many questions that were unanswered.

Yeah, I felt bad for the buyer, not sure if he truly did not know but it seemed to be a neat car. Im sure it'll get dialed in and relisted there or it'll end up here or rennlist or early911s

Wonder what it would've sold for had that not all broke loose.

The high bid was $70k and I doubt that would have met the reserve.

No question its a nicely done car which if it did not have the VIN issues would be worth a good buck over the $70k but who can really buy it given the VIN issues?

Why hasn't there been any discussion of the previous sale, where the current seller bought the car on ebay already having an 11 digit VIN?

The seller did state that he purchased the car with the current vin and registered it that way. There were people questioning the truthfulness of that fact. In the end it's not a real Porsche Vin and the prospective buyer needs to know and accept the risk.
Its a lot harder to get six figures for a car with a VIN issue. Sucks for the current owner. He has to try and put the puzzle together.

And I always thought that you could send your 911 to the Special Wishes department to have the extra digit added to the VIN if you wanted it...

Yes, it does suck. However, the new owner should have gotten it together and realized it was not the real VIN in the first place - and the burden rests on him to figure it out. It could be a complete disaster - remember our friend in England who bought a '65 only to find out that it was a stolen '67 with a VIN that was welded from underneath inside the front? It's been a long and arduous battle.

If you don't have a proper title with a proper vin then what exactly do you own? Probably nothing. But then again if its already registered with that and you have a title then the best thing for you to do is to keep it and never sell. I would never buy it. Most people would never, ever touch it. For good reason - it's not what the seller is saying it is, and the paperwork proves it.

Problem with this market is so many people, so many are trying to scam everyone and frankly I'm tired of it.

Ok I look at a bit different as I used to build Hot Rods of all types and one has to understand a lot of mixing and matching of parts and shells is common in the Industry but in some States considered illegal. Simply parting a car out is illegal in many states without a salvage license but is allowed due to the age of the vehicles.

In the end this is a cool bastard of a car that no purist would touch anyway. If the car is "Legal" I agree it would effect the price somewhat but not as much as a restored car. Anyone buying this knows it is a pieced together car so the vin even if a 912 shouldn't effect the price. I know it gets in peoples heads and can effect peoples price evaluation but if the some of the parts are legal and it is of quality who cares? It is NOT a restored car.

I do agree that the seller should be honest and disclose this potential issue ahead of time a d truly believe that if legal and they did it would have maybe knocked 10% off. Now the car is not sellable as everyone associates it as being illegal even if it doesn't. Hard to hide the sale of a bright green hot rod Porsche.

The seller should eat crow and post a explanation on BAT or realize he will own that car for life.
