At the peak?

So are we at the peak yet?

I think so, as the last 6 months of car sales are full of the 70's rust, 80's cheese and 90's cream puffs....

The happens in all booming markets, the thin area under the bell curve, the outliers, start to get their air time....
  • 912's with 934 body kits and the 616 in the back
  • 911's with Kremer K3 935 conversions on a targa
  • Home brew Targa to Cab conversions
  • The brightest and most obnoxious paint colors and combinations
  • Historical rust bucket - #124 of 7236 that were gemini blue that year!!!
  • Brokers with no clue that a flat 6 is a wee bit different than a V6 - just a tad
  • 89 Cab with 1/10th of a mile, triple white, dealer mats and original flat spotted tires
  • Aged race cars that can be "converted back to street"

We have reached the bottom of the barrel....and I think the peak.

Anyone want to sell me a long hood for less than $25K again?

Do you have any data backing 7k gemini blue cars? Or just a hyperbole? In which case kind of off the mark since it is a pretty rare color in fact and you don't find that many good cars at all in it.

The correction has happened and the pace of sales seems to have slowed, and now yes suddenly FS does seem to have a lot of turds in body kits getting bumped over and over. I think that's just misinformed dealers not realizing that the markets slowed, and the grab any 911 stage is over.

These days a lot of the good cars change hand without being advertised. I bought and sold my last two cars in that way.

Clever..... there are still some very nice cars for sale but it is safe to say a #2 T is a $7X,XXX.00 car. I do not see that value declining soon......

Here are some nice recent offerings;

I see lots of high asking prices but no takers. eBay auctions not meeting reserve over and over. Even lesser cars selling for lesser prices are not moving. By now everyone with a load of disposable income already has one and the diy enthusiast is still priced out of the market, hence the cars aren't selling.

This morning an excellent '69 912 only made it to 26k.

I wouldn't say the market will tank but things are definitely headed for a correction.

Then there's this:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/910256-1980-911sc-3-0-targa-26500-a.html

I think the air has gone out of the long hoods a bit. The 3.2's and 964's are still going strong, and the SC coupes hot as pistols. Glad I have one already.

We are just now starting to hit Spring and nice weather. Wait a month or so before putting the nails, in the coffin. There seems to be a lot of junk flooding the market right now. The really nice ones are still being coveted....

I know people who are quietly buying 40k and 50k SCs and Carerras. There are many trying to pass their bastard junk but nice cars are still selling high and will continue to.

Agreed SC's have suddenly caught up a bit, but for breakneck appreciation look at the MY narrow body cars .

You can buy nice ones all day long at these prices.

Do collectors covet the nice but run of the mill 911Ts ? I say no. They are not worth the $70K+ to own and drive around in my opinion. So who has been buying and selling them lately ? Dealers and flippers mostly.

Middies are hot. No longer the runt of the litter. Nice ones trade for $60k or more.

That's good to know. I am the second owner of my '76 non-sunroof coupe. I have EVERY single maintenance receipt for this car since brand new including delivery documents. Also have original tool kit, leather key fob, etc. Not a speck of rust and never hit. Interior is completely original with no dash cracks and everything works....including original radio.

The only letdown is the color (brown) and a mediocre quality repaint when the car wasn't worth much.

That being said, I would be amazed if my car brought anywhere near that kind of money. It's nice to hope, though

Brown is not a bad color at all in my opinion and presents well on narrow bodies. Much better than indisch, white or black.

74s trade at a premium to later years and Ss trade higher than normal ones, but I think you'd do well on your car.

The 74 coupe at Mecum in Houston last weekend sold for $60k; the car was a good colour with a one-family-owned & low mileage story. It was very nice with lots of freshly cad-plated parts but it wasn't perfect.

I like your car. It's not a common color for today. But if you want a period correct car color from the mid 70's Brown is good. For some reason when I visualize the 70's Brown seems to be the color I remember seeing a lot of.

The Mecum 74's going into someone's private museum , I have no doubt.

- One family owned since new
- Rare Mexico Blue paint
- 26,697 original miles
- Air conditioning
- Books and tools

And I'd agree with the peak business. But only for the garbage cars.

Even nice 928s are creeping up.
