Too risky to drive it around and jeopardize investment. Too expensive to title. Too expensive to insure. Too expensive to maintain. Best thing for me, store it, which begs the question, "why did you buy it?" I thought my brother-in-law was giving it away to a stranger and I was trying to keep it in the family for the last sale, not some scalper. I did some some research and it looked like the likelihood of it turning south was minimal, but no. Now I need to find a buyer who has not read this thread.

There are Porschephiles out there who would pay through the nose for this car. Get it properly documented and marketed and sell the crap out of it through a specialist who knows the players. King of Spain? Ferry? 400K miles? This car won't last on day on the market.

FYI here's the links to all the photos thus far. I'm still going to detail it to the nth degree.

I meant for driving. It's insured as storage. I'ld be in good shape if the house burns down around it.
Also, working on getting a Kardex on it. We calculate with certainty, 382,674 miles, based on dates and mileage shown on receipts. Last edited by kghjr; 01-31-2017 at 06:41 AM.. |

It's a cool car with a unique story. Immediate needs are minimal. I hope someone in this thread will step up...

Stop the worrying, pick a price (a high one), see who comes to the table, and sell it.
Moving on is sometimes the best thing to do and it's what I would do if I were you. It's not like your family didn't get a lot of very nice miles out of it. To you it's just an old 911 that seems to be the source of worry and anxiety. Don't store it. Sell it. On a long enough timeline everything gets sold. |

The assessment offered no opinion, just a mechanical assessment. It has issues to be discussed with any potential buyers if the time arises.
I did find out the insurance with full coverage is cheap, not expensive. Maybe I'll just drive it for awhile. It's about the most fun one can have with four wheels and I got mountain roads all over the place. I mean, look at this beauty in my garage. I should sell everything else. ![]() |

I guess these will have to go. Dang it, I just got both of 'em right like I like 'em.
Do you think four cars for one guy is too much? My neighbors do. They have not asked if I'm running a business, which I am not. ![]() ![]() Last edited by kghjr; 01-31-2017 at 03:16 PM.. |

No, it's not too much. Far from it.
And tell your neighbors that one of the many beautiful things about this country is that everyone's got their own money and everyone gets to do whatever they want with it.

How much for the snowblower?

Sorry kc, I just got the snowblower. Now I can't wait for snow, the more the merrier. I did me and seven neighbors last snow. Next snow the entire neighborhood. Electric start, power steering, heated hand grips, all adjustments from the control panel; I will never shovel again.
Concerning the Red Machine, I keep going into the garage to stare at it. I have driven it a lot, cruising the foothills outside San Diego, CA-1 to get the stares, and now I live in Denver with Porsche roads all over the place, and it's in my garage. The temptation to title it is great. ...can't stop staring. ![]() She became intimate with a handicapped sign post. Last edited by kghjr; 01-31-2017 at 09:07 PM.. |

Since it appears that the gallery is fully primed, the sharks have PM'd, and those in the know have chimed in about desirability and the OP has stated he wants out but is still on the fence but no one has offered an opinion of what its worth.
Personally I think the history and story are more valuable to the family but certainly carry a premium to the market. Just a wild guess but maybe 15-20% over a similar conditioned one. What do the experts think its current value actually is?? |

Respectfully, I'll keep that between me and the experts, and you know what they say about opinions and...everyone's got one. I can say the initial analysis shows me losing money, or at best, breaking even. For that, I'll keep it and drive it. I have been getting some PM's that indicate I am in the ballpark, not worried about investment. I do know this car is not meant to be admired, it's meant to be driven.
I originally thought I would buy it, test the market, sit on it for a bit sell it and try to make a little, but having driven it extensively, and now it's sitting in my garage, I'm not so sure. As I'm detailing it, my inner impulsive child takes over, and that's hard to do, I'm nearly 70 and about as stoic as they come. There is the question about the title, which is in the original buyers name. Does a break in titling have any effect on value? Instead of one-owner, it would be two-owner, but same family. Mileage is irrelevant, being at 382,674, couple thousand more won't matter. Here's my chance to be a bonafide member of the PCA, and there must be a Denver Chapter. See how it works? I work myself into a frenzy and fall off the fence on the side of keeping it. Like right this minute, I am thinking about Coal Creek Canyon Road...a Porsche road if there ever was one, 30 minutes away, just right over there, I can see it from my house. I have unique relationship with Porsches. Who has taught themselves to drive a stick, in a Porsche, with no parental supervision, cruising Sunset Strip, Mulholland Dr. CA-1? The one I taught myself to drive in ![]() The one I can drive again now ![]() I'm thinking the Falcons are headed to Hemmings Last edited by kghjr; 02-01-2017 at 09:46 AM.. |
