Or in this case with the OP he was not trying to lie about the replaced fender he did not know his car had the fender replaced until he listed it for sale.

Because someone previously lied.

Yup, some one lied with this car, but not this seller.
The 356 I bought was described as an original paint accident free car by the owner, I drove 200 miles to find out it was not, I still bought the car for a much reduced amount. I was not mad at the owner as they honestly did not know and it had been in the family for over 45 years. They had paper work showing the repaint by the Porsche dealer in 1965 ($118 for the dealer to full repaint a 356), they obviously never read their own paper trail.
I have come to the conclusion a lot of people have no clue what their car really is.
Ignorance really is bliss for most owners.
Now with the cars so valuable people look a lot closer than in the past and pull these skeletons out of the closet.

That is a lie of omission. If you know and you don’t say something you are complicit.

So, I should just put the more street friendly suspension setup on and list it as is otherwise?

The bodywork hasn't bothered me one bit since I got my rude awakening. I guess the important lesson is to do the right thing and inform the next owner so they don't get the same surprise I got.

See how I quoted you? Now your words are forever, as is this thread and the history it contains. Not only would you be a douche to fail to disclose it, but the evidence is there to show you as a liar. A smart buyer will vet you when they start talking about the car, they will find this thread, and they will know the truth about the car. And if you didn't disclose it, the truth about the seller too. But that's all a moot hypothetical because you aren't that guy.

My question when reviving this zombie thread wasn't disclosure (it was never in question,) it was what should I do to make my car more attractive to a potential buyer.

Best thing you can do to make it most attractive to a buyer is put a price on it. At this point the market is so well informed that you will not be able to get the full return out of any dollar you put in the car, so best to just keep it in your pocket and put a reasonable price out there.

The days of tarting these things up to drive price are gone. This is a very good thing for sellers; no need to invest time or money to get a car sold.

edit: aside from adding back original body pieces (bumpers, mirrors, valence, etc). The closer the car is visually to original, the better.

Nothing. Don't even change the suspension. Include the stock stuff if you have it. How much is your time worth? You will not see a $500 price delta in changing the suspension. It's a waste of your time. This car will not be a hard sell right on the eve of summer driving season. You might even find a guy who fancies himself an auto-xer and it will be a perfect fit.

It's OK if the seller didn't mention how many times he farted on the seat.

Depends. IF he does it so many times he burns a hole and it needs to be repaired, but he then fails to disclose the recover and presents the car as "all original interior"...

Sorry to necro this post, but I'm in process of moving and made a heck of a discovery.

Turns out I was given a sleeve of info with the car that I tossed in a box in the garage and never went through. Included is detailed records going back to 1986.

Also a record of the incident the car was is in on 2/14/00, and an itemized repair bill for $13,084.89 from 20 years ago.

Also a record of trans rebuild from one of the best in the business, which explains the John Walker Workshop sticker in the engine bay.

I've continued to enjoy the car, though I've been driving it less, and have been slowly returning things to stock here and there. This find makes me think maybe I should take another crack at selling it. There's not a lot of comparables in the classifieds right now, has the market changed much recently?

That’s great. Now it’s not storied. You know the story and can tell it openly. Lots of people will be less daunted by a documented repair versus a ???

I sold my car on BAT and the non-bidders are a PIA with all of the stupid comments and observations. That being said if you go that route again you will have issues with the peanut gallery when they see the speedo repair from NHS.
