Value 68 912 matching numbers?
I have a 68 912 that my father purchased new in Germany, picked up at Porsche. Have all the original documents including bill of sale and what amounted to a "window sticker" It underwent a full to metal refurbish with color change in 1979 from Bahama yellow to Burgundy. The paint is now crazed in some areas. Never in MVA. Interior all original and in good shape but not perfect. Engine needs work, at least top end but runs.
This car was my father's daily driver for many years. It has about 150k on it. Has been garage stored since taken off the road. |

Don't listen to Mad Max.
Post some pictures, but it sounds like a low $20s car.

I agree, around $20k if there are no major rust areas at structural locations. I've see some nice drivers sell $30-$40k recently.

Thanks for the input! I am really looking to sell per se. Just wondering since I have seen such a spread for cars that seem to be in very poor shape. This car has if any very little rust. After the restoration (body and paint) in 1979 it was driven for a year and then garaged as we moved to Japan. Afterwards was on the road for about a year, mostly in Florida.

Paint will be $10K. Engine work will be $10k. Subtract that from $40k high market and you've got your car.

You should keep that car. Fantastic family history. The original color is highly desirable.

Not sure why the color change.... One thing I always like in that car is the Becker Europa with the short wave band on it. I remember riding and listening to stations in other countries... very cool. |

My 67 912 was repainted by the PO to polo red prob 30 years ago, the original color is gulf blue. I also have the Becker radio. Still works great. The PO owned the car for over 30+ years. ![]() ![]()

Paint for $10,000? Top end for $10,000? For a 356 motor??? Are you kidding me? I could find a 1600 CC VW motor and pop it in and I know a guy in San Diego who could paint it real nice for $3000. ( respray for the snoots).

I don't generally equate "I know a guy" with giving someone a reasonable expectation of what servicing these things costs.

I guess my point is why would anyone spend $10,00, $20,000 on a 912 paint job? It's a 0-60 in 14 second dog. A U-Haul trailer is more fun.

Why would anyone spend that on a 356? Or an old MG? Or an Alfa. Or a Packard? People like their old cars and are willing to pay to make them nice. I remember when 356 guys were paying $10k for a show paint job when $5-6k was average. And 356s were only worth $15-20k back then.

OK but I cannot believe you included the MG. They mostly spent time in the garage or driveway oozing fluids and electricity! Really.

0-60 is around 10-11 seconds, same as the 911 L...have you ever spent time behind the wheel of a 912? Very balanced, lots of fun in everyday driving....
Now you realize most modern mini-vans will smoke many older 911's? 0-60 around 7s for a Honda Oddesy.... MattR
