Need advice - 1989 Porsche 964 Carrera 4 with 59K miles

I have a Porsche 964 that has very few miles on it, 59,665 to be exact. All original with the sport seats, with the exception of some newer wheels because I did not care for the original ones. I went ahead and had Jones Autowerks do a top end on it to seal everything up since it has been used so little over the years. We went ahead an re-ringed it and did the rod bearings, etc... It is about as mint as can be. I have been hesitant to put miles on it for fear of losing value but my father owned this car. He is 92 now. When I drive it I get the biggest kick out of it. It runs and drives as new and no other 911 I have ever driven has the same visceral yet modern feel (good AC) as this. In addition, I believe there were only approx. 1100 built.

My question is what what would you do? Say to heck with the mileage limitation and drive the hell out of it for the rest of your life? I struggle with this but I tend to think that these cars will never see 6 figures quite frankly and I am not even certain that I could sell it because of the ties to my dad. Is anyone else going through the dilemma of not driving your older 911 when values are going up? Anyway, I am probably answering my own question but wanted to get your thoughts. This is a tough one but I suppose I am leaning towards decades of memories in the 964.

We have a bunch of 911 and we daily drive them all. Winter spring summer fall. All around great cars that we enjoy every time we twist the key. If money is an object and you need this to appreciate in value then save it for someone else and never enjoy it....or maintain it and drive it and it will continue to make you happy every time you drive it.

I think I remember seeing a Porsche ad several years a go with a tag line that said: "The time that a Porsche sits - you don't get those back".

I'm trying to pile on as many miles as I can.

Awesome car. It's an icon of sorts. Close to my heart for two reasons.

First 'new' 911 I ever drove was a 1989 Carrera 4, red, just like yours with 75 miles on it. The owner was the guy that owned Greentree Toyota in Connecticut.

Second I saw them coming off the line in Zuffenhausen in December 1992.

That year is special to me though.

I'd drive it. The only thing I disagree with you on is your wheel choice. Honestly, I like the stock wheels on that car.

How would one join an online forum in 1969 with no internet and computers? Asking for a friend!

Losing value? What do think of all the S class Mercedes and 7 series BMWs driving around? Those things go from $150K to $35K in 3 years.

I would drive and never sell it. When it needs to be fixed, fix it.

Haha no clue at all. Just noticed it and had to point it out. Must be some kind of forum glitch.

You will probably regret not driving it while you had the chance.
To feel better, go price the difference between a 60k and 120k mile 964.
That is your hard number on what the driving will cost you.
