Maninblack... what ever happened to that 912-6 you purchased from a Pelican member? That was an interesting car.

Thanks. My favorite as well. And every word of it is true.

Not here. I started one for my yet-to-be-finished 944 Turbo project on Rennlist.

https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-944-951-968-forum/553376-how-to-turn-50k-into-15k-my-951-restoration-updated-with-photos-01-18-11-a.html

Quite frankly, it was just too much work and I continually fell behind only to face the calls of "more updates!" The project got moved to the back burner a few years ago while my wheel restorer took 2 years to return my painted Fuchs. I actually just started talking about prepping the car for paint. Maybe I'll get motivated and finish that build thread but I can't imagine ever starting a new one. I admire the people who do it well but it's just too much pressure for me.

On the other hand, I did a fun thread on our Italy adventure that people seemed to like over on the ESR. The last post seems to have gotten deleted but most of it's there.

3 weeks driving around Italy in a classic 911

And, my favorite of all my "car guy" stories. But you gotta read to at least post #25 on page 3 to understand.

Solving the Mystery of my Kardex (warning - way too long))

Good memory. And you're right. It's a very interesting car and I still have it. I gotta get some photos up on my site.

The previous owner had fanatical attention to detail and really did some nice work. I share the same affliction and I've been busy adding my finihsing touches to compliment his efforts. He had the car badged as a 67 911S but I decided to do custom graphics/emblems in silver/pewter to compliment the red and celebrate what the car really is:

I also did a bunch of detail work including restoring the dash, restoring the turn signals and tail lights, adding a fiberglass decklid, upgrading to better quality RS style door panels, installing new carpet, installing a new sound system, adding porsche side scripts in silver, installing a set of GTS Classic Sport S seats with red plaid inserts, and a bunch more.

Thanks for asking. Always wondered how many others followed the PO's build thread. I was thrilled to buy the car.

I share that addiction. I've got 10 or so myself. Funny, a mid-year was the last generation of 911 I added to my collection. Now it's my favorite 911 of them all. I'm especially proud of my 30k-mile 911 white over red twill and tweed interior that some of you might remember from Car and Driver's "50 Years of the 911" issue:

Do you have photos of yours anywhere?

Let's not get too excited. I'm sure we'll be back to normal before you know it.

Much easier to be kind and talk Porsches than it is to bicker like we are in the last presidential debate

I'm happy to see a friendly resolution to nathanbs' math lesson. I do vote for maninblack's signature as one of the best I've seen online. Sorry pmax but it's 100% true.

Good to see the happy ending

At the end of the day, most of us, you and MIB included, are just hobbyists having loads of fun with these p-cars.

But in the meantime Isuzu Impulse. One of my college friends had one. I thoroughly tested the handling by Lotus up on Grizzly Peak in Berkeley/Oakland. Fun car.

I had a Brat. Sold it before I got around to restoring it. Wanted to do it in US Ski team livery.

Ok now that we've gotten the niceties out of the way can we at least agree that Carfax is buyer beware? Which was the whole point of my post. I foolishly used percentages versus descriptors to try and make my point. Carfax is not what a lot of people assume it is and it's not even what they claim it is in regards to how thorough and complete the accident history aspect of it is. The reasons are in no particular order: 1)any accident or incident not involving police or insurance will not show up on carfax at least in the US I think 2)most if not all DMVs only report salvage title related info to Carfax but have expressed that sharing accident history would be an invasion of privacy 3)a vast majority of accidents not involving police but involving insurance will not appear on the history as insurers do not report to carfax(allegedly) 4)even accidents involving police and insurance may not show up.
I do agree that it is a tool that is necessary to further qualify a car that you are interested in but it should not be the only mechanism that you use to determine your car's accident history. An inspection by a qualified porsche professional is ultimately best. Fingers crossed

People are cattle. They trust Carfax, Yelp, Angie's List pretty blindly. Or a PPI. What about that rant a month or two ago about the guy with the GT3? It was the second time he got taken on a car he hadn't thoroughly vetted and wanted to blame the shop who did the PPI. Personal responsibilty and direct assessment above all else.

VIN reports are identical

Actually all of the available online reports are using pretty the same data sources, basically it's NMVTIS database. The difference is how they format and present that information to you. Plus, they put some stats data like average market price, manufacturer recalls, etc. One should always remember that there won't be any info on accident or on other issue if the owner has not reported it to authorities / insurance company. You may compare all of available reports and see how identical they actually are:

Carfax - https://vini.az/en/report/SAMPLE-CARFAX
Autocheck - https://vini.az/en/report/SAMPLE-AUTOCHECK
Almost raw NMVTIS - https://vini.az/en/report/SAMPLE-SALVAGE
