Another value thread: 88 turbo
Seeking thoughts on value of a 1988 turbo, 68K miles. I have owned for 4 years. I have approximately $25K in receipts to get the car where it is today. Clutch, oil lines, battery,etc..., pretty much what the car needed, I stroked a check. Rarly8 headers with a fabspeed zork, K27, Fikse 17" wheels, 9" up front, 11" rear.
Car had a glass out paint in 95. At 65K miles, leak down was 2-3% across the board.I can answer more questions if needed. Car is in really nice shape, not a concours queen, but really nice. No accidents. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1503705638.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1503705638.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1503705638.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1503705638.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1503705638.jpg Pic of interior looked a little blue, interior is black. Thanks |
Others will know better than I will but my guess would be 90-100K currently, would have been more a couple years ago. Still a nice example, but some will be put off by the mileage. I wouldn't...
|
I'd be put off by the wheels. Sell them and source some stock-sized ones. The car will look nicer.

Hello everybody,
I have an 86 930 with 65,000km on the odometer. The current value report for the insurance is 160,000 euros. Condition of the car note 2+ greetings from Stuttgart Dominik |
$100,000 strong although why would sell a appreciating asset? Hopefully not for a deprecating asset..

I would say it would probably sell in the 80s in this current market. Maybe get low 90s if it's exceptionally nice. If you have the stock Fuchs I would put them back on. You'll probably get more money that way. Best of luck with sale. |
I would think in the 70's would be low, 80's sounds about right and you would be lucky to be in the 90's and truly a gift to break 100K.
|
another vote for putting stock fuchs back on.. and while you're at it stick the stock muffler back on. Stock looking cars are the ones pulling in the good money. This car looks really good and not that far off from looking great! 80s would be my guess too. glws.

Thanks for the comments all. Still mulling it over.

Lovely car and I like it a lot........BUT:
Like my 1960 190 SL, the market peaked and has dropped about 15%......I'm gonna wait it out... |
Has it? Where do you think a good original 190sl trades these days? 100k flat?

I sold my very, very nice 87 recently...$100k. could have gotten more. don't let people tell you 80-90...that is "good driver" money. I would tell you that $90k should be your low expectation. looks like a very clean car!!
edit: if you have the original wheels too, that would be helpful though the wheels she currently sits on are very, very desirable!! |
Gonna put this up for sale in a week or so. Would like to have opinions on avenues beside Pelican. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thank you to those that replied.

This has Bring A Trailer written all over it!
Do an auction! |
I saw this car in person maybe two-and-a-half or three years ago, under bright and unforgiving florescent lighting. It was a sweetheart then and I kinda doubt this owner has allowed it to deteriorate in any way.
I would think the car should fetch somewhere in the high-eighties to mid-nineties. _ |
I'm a stickler for stock wheels but I really like these. I would leave the car as it is. Looks awesome. Very tastefully done and well cared for.

So many pipe dreams here still, nobody is really wanting to grasp where actual selling prices are at right now. You all quote ridiculous asking prices that are way off base. That car will not sell for over 80k. Many of you are still stuck in 2014 and 2015, when people were reaching for every 930. Those days are done, that’s wishful thinking.
Here’s a better car, lower miles, amazing condition, and with sport seats - He’s only asking 83k - and it’s not sold. If the OP’s car is an 90k to 100k car like your getting told, then this one must be 100k to 110k. Somebody better jump on it and buy this one then cause it’s way underpriced (even though it hasn’t sold) based on most of these opinions. Maybe you could flip it for 100k. Lol 1986 Used Porsche 911 Carrera at Parkhaus Performance & Parts Serving Miami, FL, IID 16940739 The problem with asking for people’s opinions of value here is that everyone’s giving you a biased opinion, they’re all talking they’re position for the most part because we all own these cars. So most of these opinions are skewed way too high to the upside, and not truly based on recent activity but just trying to keep talking the market up. Yes, I own plenty of 930’s too, probably more than most on here, but I’m not talking my position when assessing the value of a car, just my expertise. If you can get 80k for it, I think that’s a very fair deal for you in this market. |
Nobody on here has mentioned the repaint other than OP. That's not going to help value unfortunately. There have been a lot of 930's for sale lately and they seem to be struggling to get top dollar. If I were a buyer, I would be concerned that the car had a full repaint when it was only 7 years old. I think the prior poster is correct. I think 75K to 80K is your ballpark.

Even with the current administration trying to slow down the march of progress the reality is that the coming generation will have far less connection to 'cars' as technology supersedes and upends the internal combustion engine. Cars in all forms will be waning 'investments'. Drive and enjoy your Porsche while you still can. |

$75,000 now for fast sale. Hold on till spring and get closer to $90,000.
Don’t listen about the repaint.. these are no longer used cars and as collector cars 95% of all collector cars are fully repainted sometimes multiple times. - These are not used cars - These are not 911 sc’s or 911 carrera’s - You need to be ready to pay over $100,000 for a original paint clean 930. - Market is STRONG for nice 930s like the one above. Do not list on BAT jokers tire kickers without the means to purchase a $100,000 vehicle for the most part. Know that if you sell now 930s have bottomed and are climbing steadily. As far as air cooled porsches barring speedsters, 3.0 carreras, 356 a/pre a. There are no air cooled porsches that will appreciate as high or as rapidly as the 930. It amazes me how these negative market folks keep romanticizing the days of cheap aircooled porsches.. The 930 never has or will fit into the thrift sport car hobby. NA 911s yes at one time but no longer. Nor was it ever intended to be a hobbyist car. Give it up. https://www.hagerty.com/articles-videos/articles/2017/09/28/hvr-september-2017-bottom-25 http://www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/1979-PORSCHE-930-TURBO--201577 |

The 930 guys here are like Beetlejuice; say "under $100k" three times and they show up out of nowhere in an absolute tizzy. Actual reality is good driver 930's (1979-88) are selling in the high $60's, great drivers are selling in the mid to high $70's with low mile examples jumping to the $80's, with viable collector cars blowing those prices away. There are always outliers too, of course. The issue is these cars are trading quietly......you don't see people updating their ad with "sold for $30k under ask!!!", because ego. |

I don’t see this and all I do is scan for sale and auction results. Have there been some rougher 930s sold for less than asking? Yes However a clean sub 50,000 mile 930 is a and always will be a $100,000 car. I guess if you are referring to 120,000 mile cars that have not been mechanically maintained that are modded and abused then yes those can be had for less. The car above is $75,000 all day long Id say even $85,000 with factory wheels. With all the $100,000 plus 930 sales this year why are we still have this conversation.. With all the $200,000 930 sales this year why are we still having this conversation.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
The market is flat for Porsches including 930's across the board.
Even a cursory look at the cars listed on PP F/S, Rennlist, the Samba, and many more sites show lots of the speculators who got caught up in the dizzying market of a couple of years ago and are now looking to get out, asking prices that they are just not going to get. Sure there is a lot of sub par dealer trash kicking around, but even the prized G50 cars are down in both Turbocharged and N/A models. The reality of the market can clearly be seen by studying the listings from sites where there is a passion for these cars, not from results out of BJ Auction crowd, where folks get whipped up drinking lite beer and huffing Gas Monkey perfume. OP You might do marginally better in the spring, but even the preferred colors that used to command a premium are not doing well. In spite of what auction sites with a vested interest or insurance valuations might say. I agree that BAT would be a good option for you, provided you can work the Q&A to your advantage, and respond in a timely fashion to squash some of the relentless negativity. GLWTS |
