Was the car sold to Chad as something it wasn't? Did he find that out deep into the restoration?

People keep beating around the bush about the car's history but no one will explain!

A fair question. Yes Chad came to John telling him that the car had solid and very valuable history. Racing history, depending on what that history is, can add exponential value to an otherwise not so valuable car. Somewhere deep in the process of restoration, he found out that it the history was not true. Then he told John it had some other history. The owner of the dealer it supposedly had history with, stopped by John's shop for a visit one day, and the actual guy who would have been the sponsor of the race car at the time, said that was not correct. That car had no history with him.

For someone to pony up to restore a clapped out Porsche like this, there has to be reason. Chad's reason turned out to be false. He was either duped, or he duped himself, or a little bit of both. I don't have the back story on that.

So deep into the process Chad determined that there was zero history on the car and that the value he thought it would bring post restoration, was not commensurate with the cost of the restoration. By that time he had already racked up a nice bill with John. Then when it came time for a progress payment, as was clearly stated in the work order that Chad signed, not only did he not pay his bill, he tried to recover the car from John's shop. The police were called in an removed Chad from the shop.

Chad, can you please explain the story and the history of the car.

The quality speaks for itself as many have said. I was told it was ready for paIsn’t over and over and over and over I rejected it. Simple really. I paid for something that I didn’t get and now they want me to pay again.

Maybe I’m the customer willing to spend triple what the car is worth; not unusual in the restoration business as it’s not a business for me but a passion. The fact is the cars history is known and the log books and sponsorship information are factual and unchanged. No relevance to the issue at hand.
I've only seen one picture and that one is dubious.

Please share more information. I'm happy to look at it.

I don’t think do. Her name appears to be Leta, not Laurina. But I could be wrong.

I'm a daughter alright, but not John's daughter.

But I have a feeling no matter who's daughter I am, you won't listen to me becuase I am a daughter.

I'm also a mother of 4 and grandmother of 4. As a result, I see BS fast.

Wow you really do have a chip about the being female thing.

Oh and as an FYI - the Biosphere comment makes it way too easy to find you should anyone want to doxx you. Anonymizing your website doesn't help if you are going to post stuff like that.

So do we. You know too many details not made public and came here in the eleventh hour to not be related.

He was billed, he signed a work order. There is a lein sale in process proving that. Again you are going off what your boy Chad said, which is not true.

This is better than TV.. Thanks for the entertainment. Leety, you seem to know way more than any customer would normally know about another customer's car.

As far as your statement above...This is total BS. Those pics were finished bondo and several coats of feather fill..Somebody thought it was ready to paint until they got called out and the grinding took place. So either they were pulling a fast one, had unsupervised amateurs doing the work, or..??

I know several rocket scientists, it doesn't mean I know squat about building rockets..I do know a bit about welding, chopping tops, bodywork, metal finishing and the like. I could have done a better job on much of what was posted with my eyes closed and half in the bottle.

And to reiterate, Chad paid $50k. JE took it. It was "ready for paint"..Now I don't care if it was the crappiest car in the world, he paid good money for supposedly good work and got screwed. The work was shoddy. The provenance of the car is irrelevant Money was spent, the work didn't live up to the reputation and the subsequent behavior is shady at best.

I agree the provenance of the car is irrelevant

If the customer elects to pay $50k to get his 1979 Ford Fairmont restored, he's entitled to that.
He should get a properly restored Fairmont that is now worth $4k.

What he should not get is ridicule that his Fairmont is not worth $50k.
That has nothing to do with it.

It isn't irrelevant since the John camp of supporters is saying that the car was supposed to be something really rare and ended up not being anything other than a regular car, implying Chad may have not wanted to go for a top notch restoration and just wanted to get the car done. Again, not enough information here.
Can we see before pictures?
What is the history of the car, and what was is supposed to be?

Again, the easiest way to refute one side is to tell the facts. Chad has not shown any pics of what the car looked like before John started on it, nor has he given us the racing history of the car that makes it so valuable.

Just finished eating. Well I did - the kids are still bickering rather than moving spoons up and down.
