One more for the engine swap. That car looks finished minus the power you seek. Unless you really want another project car.
Which I have that (next project) disease and understand it's symptoms all too well.

Side note, Where's PhattMatt?
He no longer owns a 912 and has turned his back on trying to save this one! Fair weather fan right there.

Yeah, I already have this 2.2e engine and tranny I was shooting for a reliable 180hp or so. If possible.

Also, the paint looks better in the pictures than it does in person. I also have the original hood that had some rust bubbles in it from snow trapped under a bra in a previous life, so I swapped it out with the current carbon fiber one.

No one has yet talked about value when complete, so I will. Here's the deal - a 912-6, even when nicely done will never be worth as much as the same car with a 911 VIN. That's OK for many people.

I have gone down this road with my 914-6 conversion. Like your car, it's perfect in most every way and is a high end build with GT flares and a purpose built motor. Every inch of it is restored. It's probably worth 50K as a conversion but it will never be worth what a true 914-6 is worth.

This may or may not affect your thinking.

When I saw this thread i was going to tell you to go buy a 911 until I saw the pics of your car. You are 90% there, bro. I would convert the one you have, keeping in mind it will always be a 912 and priced accordingly.

Take existing engine, put in a 2.4/2.7 crank during the rebuild. You’re pretty much there.

Paint I would do last. Build the car. Make sure you like it. Paint it your color if you decide to keep it. You can always pull the rebuilt engine back out and sell it.

Your 68 912 gearbox is better geared than a 70-71 911 gearbox. But you can use either and just need to figure out clutch once you decide.
